Anybody removed or gutted the cat.

Just wondering if anybody has changed the exhaust.

I asked where I get my unit inspected and they said the computer would not be happy and send out all kinds of codes. Also in my state it would not pass the state inspection

Be nice to know what vehicle your talking about but on later models you cannot gut or remove.
the computer is designed to have them inplace and will not run correctly if you do so.
Not to mention its illegal

That's what is nice about having an "old" truck!
Removed the very restrictive factory exhaust, and put on a stainless 4 inch straight pipe. Jumped the fuel mileage considerably, and now I can hear my turbo whistling. That is the coolest sound!
Best mod I have done to date.

I'll bet the sound most definitely improved... I would love to hear it!

Have you done any research into how a "less restrictive exhaust" like a 4" pipe, affects both torque and HP?

Usually, the results are surprisingly counterproductive on normally aspirated engines, but does the turbo get around that?

On normally aspirated engines, a "cat-back" dual exhaust system can increase both HP and Torque, but if they do, they usually have reduced pipe diameters.

If you have a cat it is against Federal law to remove it. Can't say mine didn't "fall off" for awhile before California started their diesel inspections. It will cause the computer to throw a code or CEL. This can be overcome with a tuner that has a code reader or by a custom tune that shuts off the code from the computer. By the time you calculate the money spent, unless you tow an above average amount, you are better off to use the money on fuel, protect the environment and not worry about getting caught. JMHO

This worked for me.

O2 Simulator, mini catalytic Converter cel fix

Cruise around his website a little and he talks about how it works. I put 2 of these in a few months ago and no CEL since. I thought I would try these prior to having the computer reprogrammed or looking for a chip. They are cheap and easy to install.

Note: emmissions not policed here in Alberta.

My 06 F350 cat was stopped up. I took it off beat it out and put it back together. Made a world of difference. No codes or anything...
