Anyone add Skid Wheels on the Rear?
We've been bottoming out leaving a few driveway and the "V" shaped welded on skid is getting a work-out. Not sure if it can take many more. Have any of you had any luck with either the bolt-on or weld-on skid rollers? I do keep between 70-80 psi in the air bags depending on whether I have the bike and trike on the hitch.

I actually had the "V"removed rather than adding the wheels on.

I added them as the skid was almost worn through. I got the metal bolt on wheels. Works great but at some point will have to replace again but will be a ways down the line.
Never thought of taking the "V" skid off completely as noted above. May do it when the wheels wear out and see how it works on our driveway.

Saw some on Amazon. Did you get the 2 1/2" or 3" and the U Bolts don't look as long as yours? Did you use something from Lowe's or HD?

Why not mod the V by cutting part of it off and adding a flat and add the wheels to the flat?

The picture is deceiving from the angle. Only added about 1/2". I'm thinking to cut off the "V" brace and then raising the wheels about an 1". That should eliminate most of the drag on the back.

I think it is the 3" bolts. Used nothing else other than some wood shims to get it tight all around. 2 1/2 probably would have worked better.

Here was my solution to our 2000 Four Winds tail dragger: A ball mount was dissected, and the square wall welded to the roller wheel:
Mounted:
This works fine unless you are towing. We had a roller that was pinned below the receiver, but it acted like an anchor on soft surfaces. Got lots of stores...

HopHed, I see the issue with the receptacle on mine. Looks like I need about 2" of shim like yours to clear the V skid. I see there is a pair with caster wheels that are 4" and mounted would just clear the skids. Plus they are designed if turning instead of going straight. Most of the driveways I scrape when I need to start turning. Can't always pull straight out of a gas station or market parking lot. But then we had some on vehicles at the studio and they were always ended up bent!

Sounds like the swivel type should work. You may also want to think about mounting it just to the right of the wire harness plug. Looks kinda funny being offset from the right side but the plug is no longer a factor in how high to mount it. I changed mine last night and raised both 1/2" which is now just below the skid 1/16". I will see how it goes.

I used these on my previous V Cross, Reinforced the frame and welded on.
They worked very well as I drug every time I pulled out of my drive. I don't need them on current rig as its high enough not to drag

I have the swivel wheels mounted on my rear hitch on my 2860ds motor home. They are very hard plastic, with roller bearings and swivel. I have a steep transition on my driveway and the "V" skids always dug into the asphalt. I may end up shorting the "V" skids a bit and see if that helps because the wheels actually stick below the "V" skids by about an inch, which means I'm actually lifting the rear of the coach a bit when they make contact.

Careful measuring of the hitch frame and HopHed's photos suggests that the swivel roller won't have the clearance because of the hitch receptacle. That really only leave getting the one HopHed got.
HopHed, Amazon has a few, do you have the part number that way I know it will work?

This is the one I got. Funny, I looked at this this morning and price was $80. Looks like big price drop. The 3" is the size of the U bolts which is actually too big for the 2 1/2" hitch mount. I had to shim it 1/2" to make it tight so it would not move. You may want to consider the 2 1/2" model unless you don't mind shimming it in front and bottom.

Ok, you bought for 3" hitch bar not 2 1/2". That makes sense now.
But isn't the height adjusted lower with the shims the correct height to clear the V skid?
