Awning over slide

We have a 2016 Forester. The awning will not lock in to place when the slide in closed. It hangs loose about 5 or 6 inches so have to get a ladder, roll it by hand and tire a wire to the arm which should lock the awing closed. It seems that the awing motor is out of sink. Any idea how to fix this?

Sorry no one has responded, but I think you have a unique situation. Is the motor engaging at all to roll in any of the awning fabric?

Yes the motor works fine. I've run the awning in and out several times and it works just fine. The problem is when it rolls back up it doesn't roll up tight and the arm that locks the awning in place doesn't come back enough to connect with the lock connection on the side of the motor home.
