batteries discharging

Both my batteries have discharged the coach batteries are brand new and where isolated by switch ... vehicle battery was used Dec to start vehicle with no problems ... this is the 2nd time that both batteries have been completed discharged... any suggestions where to look

I had that problem with our 3171 Forester. Same as a 3170 Sunseeker. Found out there will always be a small drain on your batteries, even if the switch is off. The only way to keep your batteries from going dead if you don't have shore power hooked up or a battery tender on, is to disconnect the negative cables. Since I have done that, my batteries are now holding a charge. Good luck with yours.

Make sure that the batteries are fully charged and equalized before storage, and they can easily stay above 50% SOC for 90 days in cool weather.

Yes, Bluepill is correct. We had ours fully charged before disconnecting the neg. cables. It's been 3 weeks now in cold weather and the batteries are still looking good.

In addition to the other replies you may have a TV and other devices that work on DC. If so unplug them. The front TV on my Sunseeker work on DC and was a drain on the battery. Also, the Magadyne radio is a current drain.

Everything in our unit runs on DC except the A/C and microwave which are 110. Most all the DC equipment if powered on will power down when your main switch is off. When our unit was tested at CW for things draining the battery with the switch off, it was only our Bigfoot jacks. That was enough to completely drain the batteries in a week. When not on shore power and the unit is in storage, I disconnect the negative cables . All is good now.

I have these on my boat and they work great with no tools required for disco/reconnects. They make them for the fat post and screw-on post. about $3-6 each. Search for "battery quick disconnect" on ebay or amazon.

Be sure the disconnects are rated for at least 200 amps. You don't need that much normally but you do if you use the battery booster switch to start the chassis engine.

Also, if you are boondocking, switch off the antenna amplifier when you are not watching TV. It takes a little current constantly. If you boondock much, disconnect the refrigerator "Climate Control" element. It stays on all the time. There are several threads in the FROG forum about it .
