Battery Control Center wires bridged

It’s a cold winter day, and I’m bored.

I’m attaching 4 photos of the BCC found in the stairwell of our 2018 Sunseeker 2430S-CD…..the cover door, the schematic, the actual printed circuit board, and the two wires in question.

MY BIG QUESTION…….Does anyone really understand why the red and orange wires would’ve been removed from J11 and J12 respectively, and bridged together directly?

I’m not sure when the batteries should be getting charged, but so far, they get charged from the 100 watt solar panel, with the house switch in the ON or OFF position. The 2 house batteries and the 1 engine battery are alternating input from the solar panel, while the rig is parked outside.
There’s no access to test shore power or the generator at this time of year.
It’s winter, there’s no testing with the engine during storage at this time of year.

If I have to wait until spring to get power from other sources for further testing, so be it.
Thanks.

J11 & J12 are connected together on the board. The orange wire is the feed from the chassis ignition +12 when key is on. The red wire is the ignition input to the BIM module black box lower left. When they are connected together using the J11 & J12 terminal on the board the ignition signal (orange wire) is also used to disable the awning & slides while the ignition is on. By connecting them like you show the slides & awning will work no matter if the ignition is on or off. The way they are connected the BIM (charging bridge) works as intended.

Since your coach is a retired CanaDream unit they probably did that to make it easier for the renters to operate the slide & awning.

Edit to add:
In your case the slide is powered from J4, awning J14. If the wires were connected to J11 & J12 the left side of the BCC connections (J2-4-6-8-14) would be unpowered with the ignition on.

Thanks Steve. You’re right it was a previous daily rental and has performed absolutely perfectly so far…..contrary to what most people would expect with a rental unit.

Wiring it as shown, in order to operate the awning or slide while the ignition is ON seems like a recipe for disaster for renters. It seems strange CanaDream would modify the wiring to ALLOW them to be powered all the time.

If that’s all there is to the rewire, then can I expect the batteries should get charged from the solar, the engine alternator AND from the converter when powered by shore or generator power?

Yes you are correct all the charging systems will work as originally intended.

I have to agree about the potential for operating slide/awning while ignition on/moving. They have done this for 2 reasons I can see.
1 - Reduction of support phone calls from novices that can't get slide awing out because ignition is on.
2 - When engine is running batteries are being fed a higher charging voltage. This can be beneficial for operating the slide to prevent overheating the motors.

The CanaDream instruction video (yes I'm bored at the moment )states that "engine must be running to operate slide room" Sounds like my #2 thought is correct.

Thanks Steve. Great summation of the wiring and reasons.

Now we can all go back to napping.
A very big portion of the North American continent is looking down the barrel of another huge winter storm starting today.

Stay safe, stay well, stay warm.
