Black Tank Flush Question
Let's say for arguements sake when flushing your BT you don't follow instructions and leave the tank closed to get a good rinse. Being absent minded you walk away for a bit and then notice a bit of water coming from the storage bin opposite of the sewer bay. You immediately drain the BT, clean up a small amount of water in the bin and can't find any other water anywhere in or under the rig. So, where did that water come from?

I would guess that it leaked out of the top of the black tank at the gasket where either the toilet drain or vent stack enter. It then traveled along the top of the tank and ended up where you found it.

x2 , probably just a gasket since it's a gravity drain. It would have come out the roof vent with better seals.

When I flush my black tank I never walk away. I'm just too forgetful to take that chance. So I just stand there drinking my beer and listening to the tank fill.

Had to respond to "Hatchet19"... at my age if I stand there drinking beer listening to water run in the tank... well then I have to be using that tank real soon!

You should be OK - did that when we owned a 5er....so now I am paranoid. I just run the black tank rinse with the valve open...for @ 45 min

Put a shot of dawn detergent in both the grey and black tanks on the way home and add a little bit of water. this sloshing around helps to clean them and it seems to work well..

I was told that if you were to do what you did that the water would come up through your toilet and flood your bathroom floor in your camper.

Was the water that spilled out black water or fresh water?

Fresh water, 2nd rinse. No smell at all, lucky, bleach cleaned all we could see. I normally babysit the process, however, just as I started I got an important phone call and got distracted for a few minutes too long. As soon a you think you've got this RV thing figured out, wammo, live and learn. Fortunatly no small animals were harmed during this screw up. ;-)

Rule 1: There are no important phone calls.
Rule 2: Blank Tank work requires direct oversight. It's like a 3 year old boy. Never turn your back.
Rule 3: Water is our blessing, and our enemy. Corralling it is one tough task!!
Rule 4: Gravity always wins in a battle including water.
Rule 5: Never mix hoses.
Rule 6: ....... Not sure there is a rule 6..........

When Im flushong the black water tank I NEVER walk away from the camper. My wife monitors the level gauges and when it gets to 3/4 I drain it, probably do this twice each time we are leaving the campground.
There are too many horror stories of tanks bursting, falling, etc. to get in that big of a hurry!

I am always right at the connection or the faucet when I flush. Last time we were out the Pex connection where the hose hooks up broke on the barb after about a minute. Fortunately we had roughly a half gallon of fresh water to clean up. And for those who are wondering, I had my regulator and gauge on it and it was set at 40 psi.

45 Minutes?
BamaBob;
Do you run it 45 minutes after EVERY BT flush or only when you are done camping and going to store it. That's a lot of water........I am fairly clear after a few minutes.......

If your hose was hooked up to the black flush hookup there's a chance a hose or plastic fitting cracked. Happened to me, had a lot of water leaking down. Since it was fresh water it confused me till I found the problem.

Absolutely correct. I had this happen. I was back flushing the black tank and got side tracked. Well, several minutes later I am outside the trailer and water is coming out of the slide seal. I rush around the trailer, shut the water off and go inside the trailer and water all over the bathroom floor and leaked into the living room slide and leaked out. I opened up the toilet lid expecting to see a toilet bowl full of yucky water. No water. The water was forced up and out of the seal between the toilet and the flange, and that broke the seal and had to be replaced. Bleach, bleach and more bleach for the floor. I now have a timer with alarm so I don't do this again.
