Can I pull an 8.5x24 trailer

I have a 2010 3170DS sunseeker. Thinking of pulling a 8.5x24 ft enclosed trailer to haul a golf cart and a couple harleys. I have the V-10 Ford E450 motor and chassis. Any concerns the trailer/cargo being over weight? I will definitely have electric brake set up. Thoughts?

There are a lots of nuts and bolts involved in that question but the simple answer is your have #5000 towing compacity per the specs I just read.

That being said, you have to figure in all the weight of the junk you loaded up in all the little cubby holes and You, your wife, the kids, and the dog and add that to the equation. OH! FW tank weight when full, black water tank weight when full. food, clothing etc. A trip the the truck stops scales is in order.

I think your gonna need a bigger boat!

I'm sure there will be others more knowledgeable on the subject jump in here and help you out.

The first problem I see coming is tongue weight. According to the 2010 brochure , attached, you're rated at 500 pounds max tongue weight. I don't think you can make that happen.

Second, the 5,000 pounds max trailer weight may be iffy as well. What is the weight of the two Harleys and the golf cart? Take that number and deduct it from 5,000 max trailer weight and you have how much the trailer it self can weigh.

Finding a trailer that big that only weighs around 2,000 to 2,500 pounds may be difficult. The ones I found like this one, weigh closer to 3,500 pounds empty. And the empty tongue weight of 540 pounds is a deal breaker for me.

Taking either the Harleys or the golf cart in a smaller trailer should be doable.

I tow a 16 ft. deck open trailer and empty is 1700 lbs. Then put 1 of either 3 vehicles,I take with me. Towed by a 2012 SunSeeker.

I had a 2014 sunseeker 3170 and altho it was powerful and towed a jeep wrangler with little effort. I think you would be pushing it with that setup. You will never know for sure until you try but I would advise not to. I think you should seek help from the dealer and see what they say just be careful and good luck.

I found a typical 8.5 by 24 enclosed trailer on the 'net.
It has a GVWR of 9990lbs, well in excess of your 5000lb tow rating.
Might be a bit too heavy for your 3170DS Sunseeker...unless you pull it empty.

I've got a 2015 2700DS 28' that I pull a 24' trailer loaded with a 2800# race car and all the rest of the junk we take to the track. Been pulling it for about 5 years. Mine has a 7500# hitch from the factory and less overhang behind the rear axles than the 3170. That's why I bought this model.

It tows fine. The only issue has been the Michigan roads. They really take their toll on a vehicle.

I believe that your 24' trailer is open, not enclosed, correct?
I pull a 20' open trailer that weighs 2250 lbs. empty, loaded with two Polaris SXS that weigh a combined 2800 lbs. all over the western USA with no problems at all with our 2010 Sunseeker 2650 on the E450 chassis. I looked at enclosed trailers but could see the additional weight would be way over the ratings.

I would not try that. I pull a 16' open trailer with 1 Polaris side by side and a Polaris 4 wheeler. Trailer weighs 1680 empty and toys weigh 2400 combined. Pull with a 2018 Forest River Forester 3011DS on the E450 chassis. Hitch is 7500 but tongue weight is still 500 so I use a WDH just to be safe. I have covered a lot of steep mountains in West Virginia with no issues. Sold an18' X 8.5 when I got this rig due to its empty weight was 3250.
