Class C gas towing a F-150?
I have a 2017 F150 that pulls our Flagstaff trailer and that is capable of being flat towed. We are considering purchasing a gas Class C and are researching whether we can tow our F-150.
Is anyone towing an F150 with a Class C on a gas Ford 450 chassis either with #5000 or #7000 tow capacity?
Any thoughts or recommendations appreciated.

I’m specifically interested in towing my 2017 F-150 behind a Class C, Ford 450 chassis.

We have been towing a 2019 F150 4x4 with a 2019 Forester 3051S. We have towed from AL to FL and back. Also towed from AL to OH and back. No issues at all. The F150 weighs around 5200 pounds per scales.

That’s good to know. I understood that the weight was around #4305. I guess I better get it weighed before I move ahead.

My F-150, see Signature, weighed in at 5,460 pounds with a full tank of gas, no passengers and no cargo. That weight is from my local CAT Scale. I'd definitely be looking for more than a 5K tow rating.

I expect the same model in similar years would also have 7500 rating. We love our rig

As already noted, current model Forester and Sunseeker E-450 based motorhomes have both a chassis tow rating and a hitch rated to tow 7500 pounds. The E-450 GVWR is 14,500 pounds, while the GCWR is 22,000 pounds. Of course, a proper toad braking system would be essential.
Some short Ford based class Cs are built on an E350 chassis. The E-350 DRW cutaway has an 18,500 pound CCWR.

We tow a 2015 F150 with a 2018 Sunseeker 2860DS. Only have pulled it about 500 miles, I upgraded the rear sway bar and planning on the front sway bar and steering stabilizer. As is it pulls fine. I just want to minimize the “push” issue of cross winds and tractor trailers. The F150 is lighter than my Jeep commander, we sold the commander and paid for the hitch and upgrades.

I tow my 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 (5900 lbs) with my 2016 Sunseeker F-450 without any problems. My hitch is 7500 lbs capacity.

Original poster here. Many thanks for all the info it has been very helpful.
My 2017 SuperCab with 3.5 turbo boost has just under 60,000 miles, an ARE cap and looks brand new. I’m trying to decide whether to keep it and flat tow or replace it with a new F-150 or downsize to a Ranger, Canyon or Colorado. I don’t need a full size truck but the F-150 rides like a Cadillac and the wife loves it. The only real downside to the SuperCab is that it won’t fit in my garage (20’ deep). I know the mid size trucks will fit but I would probably loose the comfort of the SuperCab.
At least I’ve got till spring to decide.

My car and dolly weigh 3900, and I towed it over Monarch pass, no problem. Only got into 2nd once, mostly because I forced a downshift, but it probably could have stayed in 3rd at the torque peak which is around 3200.
Of course it's working hard, but it is a medium duty truck, and can do what they say it can (22000 combined). The six speed works very well. My combined weight is a tad under 18000.
I have no doubt it can handle a couple thousand more pounds, especially without hitch weight as if you're flat towing.

I have a 2016, XLT, 157" WB, but not 4x4, so I can't flat tow it anyway. Even if I could, I would be uncomfortable towing something that long. Anyway, we got the DW a new 2019 Ranger 4x4 to tow and it does real well. The Ranger is Gold (Saber), so we are pulling a Pot of Gold with a Leprechaun. Also it was DW's present for our 50th Anniversary. My 2016 has 62k miles, is "Raptorized" and like new, so I'm keeping it. We also towed a 24 ft. TT all over before getting the MH, never had a problem. 3.5 eco with Max Tow does well. Ron
