Clear shield mildew problems

Is anyone else having mildew problems under the clear shield on the front end cap and the front hood? My 3011DS is only a year old and already I am seeing mildew.

Yes and it looks terrible. I would rather not have it and chance a ding than have mildew.
I can't tell if it's in the clear shield or under it.

There is another thread about this where people posted about having it professionally removed but no one has posted any other solution that I've found.

Forest River needs to stop applying that junk in my opinion.

I had one on my 2012 3011DS. I did the hood and fenders myself. Fenders came out great but I nicked the paint on the hood and had to repaint. Because of the enormous effort, for the cab, I took it to a place in south Florida (250 miles away) and they attempted to remove it from the cab. Ended up chipping the hell out of the paint so now I have to have that repainted.

What a PITA. Now after about $1000 and DAYS of my time, it looks great

The strip on my hood looks terrible. I plan to remove it by applying heat from a hair dryer, using Goo Gone, then waxing.

Yup I have same problem. it is underneath the clear shield. I'm very upset but other than removing the clear shield I have not heard of a solution.

I tried that too. It didn't work. The material becomes gooey and impossible to work with.

There is an eraser wheel that you can get at an automotive paint store. You put it in a rotary tool (or even drill) to remove the mask. It's used primarily for removing automotive graphics. Slow but it works.

I learned about this AFTER messing up the paint on my hood

No pardon necessary.

On the leading edge of the hood, on the front cap and on the front facing sides of the coach, Forest River applied a plastic film meant to protect the paint from dings.
I'm not sure if it is model specific or if it's only used on rigs with full-body paint, but if you have it on yours it seems there isn't much we can do about the mildew forming under it.

Steeljag, I think you and I bought ours around the same time. I try so hard to keep it looking new and it really bothers me to see this.

Mine has started as well. When it gets really bad, I plan to take it to my body shop to have them remove it. I would like to try replacing it with bedliner.

After 3yrs my 3011 with full paint and clear cover on the front hood and cab is not showing any sign of mildew either. I'm sure some of this might be caused by an installation issue but I'm also wondering if it has to do with how the RV is stored/parked when not in use. The front of my RV gets full sun in the morning and afternoon while in storage so that might help with not having the issue so far.

I have a 2016 Sunseeker MBS I bought used and it has the Diamond Shield. No problems so far. Looks good, I must say.

My 3051 gets full sun in storage on the hood and front cap Durashield film. Mildew started last spring and is growing worse. The front sides of the coach box also have the film and it is mostly shaded but no mildew showing.

Thinking it is an installation issue also. Maybe too soon after full-body paint?

The photo doesn't do it justice. Just imagine the brown spots across the hood and front cap.Click image for larger version

Ahhh, there something I did not think of. When you have a full paint, you probably should wait a while for the paint to fully dry before applying the film.

I am looking at purchasing a Forester 3011 DS in the next few months and this post on the Durashield has me a bit concerned. I did look up Durashield website and found a great deal of information. One thing in particular that might be of interest to all of you are the FAQ setion, that describes cleaning (if the staining is on the surface) and how to remove the product (clothing steamer). I also looked up the warrenty. Titan™ Warranty | DuraShield™ paint protection film This material is guaranteed for 10 years not to discolor. You might want to contact Durashield see what they have to say? Then if it has been incorrectly installed take it up with FR.

That may be the difference. They used some other brand on mine.
