Converter has died
My converter has died. Had the elecrician came and checked and he confirmed the death.
I'm looking at the progressive dynamics converter with the charge wizard for replacement. The old WFCO unit is 55 amp (MH is 30 amp). Do I need to match the amps to the old unit? I can find 45 amp, 60 amp, etc., but not 55 amp.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Think this may be what you are looking to find.
55 Amp (PD4655V)
Inteli-Power 55 Amp Converter/Charger
Model #PD4655V replaces these converter sections: Parallax/Magnatek #6355, Parallax #7355, Parallax #7155,
Parallax #8355, WFCO™ #8955

One advantage of the Progressive Dynamics line is that you can connect a pendant and FORCE the converter to go into boost mode. This means that if you boondocking and using a generator, you can maximize the few hours of run time to get as much battery charge as possible. The PowerMax does not appear to offer any manual control of charge level. If you aren't boondocking it really doesn't matter.

For sure it does, no converter could work without one. However, you can't force it to go into Boost mode, it makes its own decision and when it drops out you get a very low charge rate. If you are persistently plugged in, that is no problem. However, if you are cranking a generator while boondocking, as soon as it drops out of boost, you get what you get.

What happens if you forget the boost mode is on, since it is manual, and you run a long charge? Will it cook the batteries? I would think that a charger that monitors the charge level automatically would be better for the batteries in the long run.

Randy at best converter recommend this unit of progressive dynamics after I asked him which converter is best for boon-docking.
Hands down the "boondocker" it's named that for a reason ✌️

I agree that the Progressive Dynamics with the charge wizard is the way to go. Had one in my last rig and I will be replacing my WFCO in my motorhome with one soon. We mainly boondock. It's takes more than a product with the "boondocker" name to convince me.

Actually the microprocessor will revert from boost to normal after a period of time automatically to avoid issues. Of course, you can hit boost again to keep going. Strangely my Trimetric shows 14.5 volts applied whenever I am running the engine on the RV, so 14.5 can run for a long time with no serious issues.

Since I have one of those, I'm curious how you do that.

You buy the optional $12.00 pendent that connects via a data cable, then you can override the automatic cycles when needed. Google the converter and you will see this accessory.

You are correct but it will drop out of boost mode by itself down to 13.6 then if you want you can put it back into it, but it will drop down by itself when it reads the voltage.
As far as the person who asked about getting the pendant, if you get the WFCO 8955 / replacement the new board has a button that you push and you do not need to buy a pendant. Progressive makes a 55 amp direct replacement.
To the OP Your best bet would be just buy turbs, It is a very good power center also, and is also a direct replacement...
