Absolutely always, Propane is ON when traveling. Uses minimal propane. cool a few hours and then load cold/frozen food in fridge normally the night before leaving.
Never been thru a tunnel but glad to know this is a NO. Have never turned gass OFF when gassing up tow vehicle.

Does Anyone Travel With Their Propane On?
In most provinces and some states it's illegal to drive with propane on for a reason and that's because of the hazard of lines disconnecting or a spark from travelling and having a propane leak and having it explode. My safety and my wife's safety comes first.
Also the fridge will keep cold for 8 hrs if not being opened. I'm not sure why most RV manufacturers have stopped making 3 way fridge which to me was the safest way to travel with the fridge on running off the battery power.

When statements like "most provinces and some states" comes up on most topics here, we generally ask for links to official corroborating information. Do you have such links? Thanks.

Risk vs. effort. Risk is extremely small in an open area such as a fuel station. Risk in a tunnel is still small but tunnel systems that post propane off protocols should be obeyed.
For those that insist there are some states that have laws against using propane systems during travel, please reinforce your statements with references...you sound too much like a troll otherwise.
Bottom line for me...the risk is WAY too low to justify the effort...the fridge runs fine while traveling/refueling.

I searched for provincial legislation for Alberta. There is a safety bulletin (see link) which gives safety tips on lpg (no filling a propane tank within 10 metres of ignition - that’s almost exactly 32.81 feet, so you would be safe at 32.82 feet - the government says so ), transporting propane tanks and so on but there’s no mention of turning off propane when travelling, or when refuelling the vehicle.

Good Point
Still a newbie in RV/TT ownership(14 months) but do travel w/propane on. I do however turn off at fuel stations, told that for safety, no big deal. I'm still learning and appreciate everyones take on various topics. I also research on my own and weigh the comments both pros and cons and decide. I'm with "windsurfdog" on this one. Thanks everyone, need all the knowledge so my wife and I can enjoy the pleasures of traveling in our FROG TT. Peace!

Can you please provide a link to such laws in these states?
I've never seen any such law in the US. Only local laws for some Eastern tunnels and some ferry service.

Must be going by his GPS. Some of them give fake information. I looked under the state of NJ and there was no reference to travel with propane on/off!

Always on except when the stations fill the propane tank. Been through a few short tunnels? Was left turned on?

Propane on or off
Common sense dictates that an open flame while refueling is not a good idea. I live in B.C. on an island, the ferries insist that tanks be shutoff and tagged as such when the dock personel inspect units on board. The fridge , if it has had sufficient time on to achieve a good cool level, will hold for some hours , if not continually opened. We travel with it on, when connected to shore power ,it automatically will chose the best source, in that case 120v

In Aus it is a requirement that all refrigerators are 3 way, that is electric, Gas and Battery 12 volt powered. When my Forrest River Lite 5th wheeler arrived in Australia it was only gas and electric the dealer was required to fit the Dometic modification to allow me to tow using 12 volt power from the Battery which is recharged from the tow vehicle as I drive along. I have no issues with the battery system maintaining the Refrigerator temperature even on extreme hot days.

Does Anyone Travel With Their Propane On?
https://www.goodsam.com/article/defa...icleID=2377513
This seems like the best site I've found for regulations. It looks like there's only a couple of provinces that prohibit propane being on while travelling after a quick scan.
Which makes me wonder why don't they allow it and no other province or state does.
But for me I'll stick to the safety side as opposed to take a chance. My life is more important than having a cold fridge.
And below is another link to this issue.

Considering that they have a high flow emergency shut off on the tank, it should be safe!
