Door strut on 3010
The exterior door on my 3010 opens with such force that I'm certain, at some point, that the strut on the bottom will be torn loose. I try to remember to hold the door when opening it, but I shouldn't have to. I'm wondering if I have a defective strut, or are they all like that. What say you 3010 owners?

Mine swings open forcefully as well. Seems like the struts they use have too much compression

Me too - have a 2015 SS 3010DS and mine does the same. I just came back from the Rally in Goshen where I had the techs work on the problem. After numerous techs and numerous tube replacements alas it is doing the same thing. I called the tube mfg and was going to order a tube with more pressure but the salesperson suggested lower pressure might be a better direction. I did not order one yet. Wanted to post something here to get more opinions. Found this thread (I know it is old) so thought I'd start here. I think I will post a new one too to see if I can get other opinions and input.

Had the same problem on my 5er and cured the problem by moving BOTH anchor points 2-1/2" towards the door hinge. Accomplished 3 things. 1. Door opens much more gently. 2. Door swings open about 110° as opposed to 90° before. 3. When door gets to within about 6"-8" of closing, the strut helps close it. We love the way it works. I did thru bolt the trailer side anchor and added a plate inside and pop riveted the anchor on the door. No problems in 3 years.

Thanks for that info. I don't think it'll work on the 3010 as the arm for the awning is adjacent to the door and door needs to stop at 90°

So does mine, but you can position the anchors to where it clears the door. Mine clears by only 1" now. You need to just play around with it. Uncouple it from the door and see how close you can get and move the anchors accordingly on both ends. IT will work.

Thanks. I did find an online source for them too, about the same cost but with shipping, will check around to see if any are available locally. Will post my findings when I replace it. Was yours the 20# model originally and did you go to 10#?

I just started experiencing this same thing on the door of our 3011 this weekend. I was hoping I would come here and find a way to adjust the speed that it opens. It looks like that's not possible. I guess I'll be looking into a strut with less pressure. Thanks for all the previous posts, that's what I love about this forum, being able to find the answers to questions I have.

Moving anchor points will accomplish more than just switching to different strength struts.
