Drain handle hinders door closing

Drain handle for gray water on my 2021 Forester MBS 2401 will not push all the way in for door to close. Its new and I have not put any water in tanks yet. Unfortunately dealer is 600 miles away. Feels like everything is working the way it should except the handle is about 1/2 inch from closing and of course keeps door from closing, thanks

did you put some lube on the seals and path of the opened door?

and checked for anything obstructing the path like a stray piece of plastic from the tank interior?

I think I would start with a little vegetable oil on that seal and not a petroleum product... dielectric grease from the auto parts store would probably work well also...

The dump valve is a gate valve. It is essentially a disk that slides in a track to open and close the opening in the drain pipe. It is connected to the end of the metal rod with the handle on it. Take a small amount of non-oil based lubricant and apply it to the track. Then work the valve a few times.

I think he's saying the door to his water compartment will not close due to the dump valve handle. Others have reported this if memory serves.

yes the door to the dump valve handles will not close because the gray water handle will not push in all the way. Valve seems to be working fine but will lube track tomorrow, thanks

Ok this is a wild idea, but is the dump valve handle screwed all the way onto the shaft? The shaft has a fairly long thread that screws into the handle.

Was the door closed when you bought your Forester?

Is it possible to 'clock' the valve a quarter turn?
Or, remove the gate assembly and (maybe?) modify the shaft?
Once the gate is removed any issues with damaged seal, trash, or bent shaft will be readily visible.
Got pics?

Yes,door was closed, that's what makes this puzzling. I took handle off gray water handle to close door and even Black handle sticks out about a1/4'' to far to close door properly. Gates seem to work fine, no leaking when fully closed. Can shafts where Handle screws on be cut off and rethreaded or are they not hollow. But why did door close to start with, thanks

Check to see that there is no debris in the grooves that guide the slide gate. A small plastic shaving or other junk is probably probably preventing the the slide gate from going fully closed.

Thread moved to Forester/Sunseeker sub-forum by the site team since this issue has been addressed in the past.

Can you post a photo of the valves please. Not too close, need to see the plumbing and the the door opening closest to where the handles are.

Don't suppose the tanks have shifted? They could have just enough space to move? If so, they need spacers to eliminate that. Some tanks are rather poorly fixed in position.
The fact that the valve shuts off clean sorta rules out crap in the blade area...? A bent shaft would also be r/o as it would cause a leak or drip.
My SWAG for the day.

Had flushed out gray tank couple times. Valves sound and feel like there closing fine. I think the cables are to long as they make couple bends on way to the where handles are, just my guess. But why did door close fine when I bought it home?

You are so wrong about not seeing anything in a photo. EVERYBODY that is trying to help you was talking about the gate valves themselves. Nobody was considering that you had cable pulls.
