Ever run to your storage lot to look for hail damage on your travel portal?

Well I did today. Getting baseball size hail at my house. TV shows massive hail where I am and where my RV is stored nearby. As soon as it was safe I went to the storage lot. All was good. Whew. But am I ready if it happens for real?

I live in Denver where hail is known to wreck havoc, but I wasn't sure how to respond if my RV was hit. I''m not eager to pay for inside storage, so I take my chances, but I learned today that I'm not prepared.

Like most, I want to be self sufficient when it comes to repairs. Not because I like it, but I refuse to leave my RV for someone else to waste time with.

So, what are the right steps for hail preparedness? Since the resultant water damage will compound the physical damage, how do you stem the immediate damage before you can make permanent repairs?

Here's my best guess;
1. Have extra inner and outer skylights if you are in a high risk area
2. Have the right sealants on hand
3. Plan your go-bag; water absorption, insurance documentation (camera, note taking materials), hydration for the hard work ahead, something to patch water intrusion points
4. Stay calm and try not to think of lost plans...

Very important to have vent covers of some sort on the roof vents. Around here the insurance adjusters call them "Hail guards".

My experience has been that when Mother Nature is involved, fugetabout it. Just make sure you have a video inventory, receipts for any upgrades you did and a good insurance policy. Then wait until the next RV show and get a new one. Besides, hail ain’t nothin...
