Ford E 450 side mirror position

I had a 2004 class C Ford and it came with Velvac thin arm side mirrors. They came out 90° from thedoor. The position was fine for viewing. Recently I noticed that my newer Forester Class C with a thicker arm and larger dual mirror comes off the door swept back probably 4”-6”. never really noticed it until I started having issues pulling back on the highway or freeway. On certain on ramps, I am unable to get a good view on traffic to merge. Also the passenger side mirror’s angle requires me to turn my head sideways to view it rather than a quick glance with my eyes.
I have been able to swing the mirror and arm out to 90 ° use the breakaway swing feature, but it doesn't still put and slowly move back into the set position. I am getting up there in years and only intend to have the RV another year. but I wondered if others have noticed this?

My 2018 Sunseeker has shorter arms for the Velvac mirrors than most Class C motorhomes. Actually, the exterior width of my rig is only 97” versus the 102” of a lot of the other Class C units, so I guess that’s why I get away with the short arm version. I have no troubles with my side and rear visibility using these mirrors, and they do NOT extend at 90 degrees…..they are slightly angled rearward. Not sure if they’re the 4”-6” you mention.

Drive safe!

Ken snd Terry, they look like mine from your photo. Perhaps your drivers seat is positioned farther back. I have a slideout stopping further rear movement. If I were any taller, it wouldn’t work.

My driver’s seat is positioned as far back on the factory track as possible. I’m 6’ tall, and along with the seat back angle, it’s extremely comfortable seating for the longest drives we’ve done. Our floor plan is not offered anymore, but it has nothing restricting the seat position rearward.

It’s possible that because of your slide out you’re not allowed to position your seat as far back as mine. I’m not sure how comfortable you are without being able to move further back.

I’ve reiterated to lots of people that are contemplating buying a Class A or C motorhome, to make sure the seat can be positioned where you need/want it in relation to the slide when it’s retracted. Almost any motorhome is always on display with whatever slides they have, in the open position to show the spaciousness of the rig. Few people actually try the driver’s seat for positioning with the slide retracted.

Unfortunately, it may be too late for you based on your situation mentioned.

If they are like mine there is a set screw at the end of the arm. Loosen it and rotate the head to where it's a better view.

Here’s the Velvac mirrors on my rig, but I don’t know what model. They work fine on my Sunseeker.
