The bed area is tight. The head half lf section of the split mattress fills the entire movable part of the bed slide out. There are small shelves near the head of the bed that can hold eyeglasses, a clock, or a beverage. There are AC and USB outlets on the bed base on both sides about mid-way head to toe. Even though the 2440 and 2441 (Forester) floorplan pictures show a nightstand next to the aft bedside, there is actually no nightstand there. However there is space on the floor on either side of the bed base. On the aft side, there is probably around 7-8 inches of space on the floor between the bed and the wall.
One thing we like about the 2440Ds and 2441DS is the the bed and dinette slides are separate units, unlike the more common full wall slide floorplans. You can just run the dinette slide out for a lunch stop without fiddling with the bed. The separate slides should reduce load on the slide mechanisms vs having one big slide.

Hello, and thank you again for your thoughtful answers. We have come to the decision to wait until after the first of the year to begin shopping again. By then, perhaps dealers will have inventory, and we can see floor plans in person. The dealers we’ve spoken with don’t have much information to pass on to us. Appreciate your time so much, and perhaps we’ll chat again after we all kiss 2020 good bye! Have a wonderful day!
