Fresh water fill question

So I'm trying to figure out for the first time how to actually fill my fresh water tank. On my last RV, it was a simple matter of turning a valve while I was connected to "city" water. On my Sunseeker, there's a separate opening on the passenger side of my rig supposedly for this purpose...however it's not a threaded opening, it's just an opening with a cover and when I stick a hose in there, the water just comes back out. It seems like I would have to use a funnel and do this verrrrry slowly. Why on earth would they design this like this, or am I just missing something?

Many (most?) units have fresh water fill as you have described. All 4 of my trailers did/do. I have no problem filling my FW tank just by sticking the white hose in the unthreaded opening and turning on the water full force. For yours to blow back, I'd say you have
1. a kink in your fill hose or
2. a low point in your fill hose which P-traps water or
3. a problem with your FW tank vent which is intended to allow air in the tank to be replaced with water. (We've heard of some vents that weren't attached to the tank correctly and some which had a low point which P-trapped air.)

OK I'll try again...my fresh water tank isn't in a position for me to easily see how much is actually going into it vs. coming back out, but SOME water got into it. It's flowing out because there's almost no angle to my freshwater fill...it's almost horizontal. Is there any reason not to do what some others have described here and put a valve controlled feed into the freshwater tank than feeds off the city water input?

Nope. Have at it. What about filling it a bit slower. And if your close to the fill port you can hear when its about full. Just sayin'

True...it's also got an overflow right at the same place, so good point. If I'm out there doing it I see that right away. Maybe I can rig some kind of funnel connection with a hose that gives me a little more pitch too

Yup

Or the type I have that will stay put if you have the coarse cap threads. Here it is: http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...ure-fill/31795

Notice!! be careful with this item, you could/can turn your FWT into a "Water Balloon"!High pressure water with lots of flow will overcome the little "Air Vent"! Youroo!!

I use a small diameter hose like you use for a washing machine inlet water line/hose. Use the one that has a female end. Cut the hose about a foot from female end. Now you can screw a regular water hose to the female end and the small diameter hose will fit down into the water fill opening. Just push it down in about 10 inches and you can fill and the hose won't jump out.

On my old TT I had the same issue. Figured out that spiders made a nest in the vent tube (small opening above the fill opening). By holding the hose in place and forcing water in it blew out the vent tube. From there on I had no more issues filling FW tank. Just a thought.

I've had the same problem filling my FW tank. My solution is to lift he passenger side a few inches with the Bigfoot levelers. If I didn't have them, I would drive up onto some leveling blocks. This is a bit inconvenient, but it works.

We've been on the road for the past three months, but when I get home I'll remove the bed platform and see if I can improve on the fill hose routing.

Mine is in for service now for this issue. When they disassembled the water fill, they found the tube ran upward, was buckled and leaking. The service rep said, " you know water doesn't flow uphill, eh"?

I bought my 2008 Lexington used and have the same problem...the FW fill is almost horizontal as well. My Nephew recently showed me an adapter that he uses to fill his fish tanks with, which is the adapter attached to a long, clear, thinner hose. I'm going to find one of those!

This is the result of cutting the tube a bit too long. And instead of test fitting and sizing property, they shoved it in, and screwed it down...

Some great ideas here...which is why I always come here first What I ended up doing is a combination of what a couple of you guys suggested:

1. Got a very cheap (thin) garden hose for about $10...connect it to my white hose, cut off the other end. Now I have a hose that will actually go into that hole a little further.

2. Use my leveling system on manual and put the two passenger side jacks down which gives me the pitch I need

Presto....all done

youroo, this device has its own vents, also. I've filled my tank all the way until water squirted out of the vents at 60psi with no problems.

My fix

I have a Sunseeker and I have the same issue. I use the long funnel and I use high water pressure. I cover the air vent hole when I fill the tankle. I release the air from the vent...some water blows out so stand back then cover the hole again and repeat as needed. I chech the level inside. Good luck.
