Fresh water tank

Should the fresh water tank be drained after every use? Or, how long can the fresh water tank sit. Also how often do you drain the water heater? Thank you!

I don't drain unless it will be several weeks between trips. Same with water heater. I also use ambient temp to make me decide. I don't think I want to be drinking water that's been sitting still in 90 degree weather for weeks. Icky stuff likes light and warm temps. Under trailer, not getting much light, but I wouldn't drink from a water bottle left out for 4 weeks in heat, likewise for tank.

Suburban recommends draining water heater if it will be sitting for more than a couple weeks.

My personal view. I generally don't drain the water tank between trips even if they are several weeks apart. I do add a couple of teaspoons of bleach when I add water to the tank and do a full system sensitization at the beginning of each season. WH only gets drained when I do winterization at end of the year. I filter all water going into the tank with a 0.5 micron filter that is rated for giardia, etc.

Just my thought, all those water bottles in stores can sit for a long time before people use them...
