Gasoline odor

Hey, does anyone else detect a slight raw gasoline odor outside the Onan Generator compartment after it had been running? Every time I walk past that compartment after I have been running it I get a whiff. I haven't seen any leaks... But it is worrisome. My unit has 8 hrs. On it now, and had the fuel pump replaced due to faulty part. Before we head on our 6k mile journey next week I want to make sure it's up to par!

Fumes are common around some small engines after use. In your case I would check around the (Fuel Pump) lines. Youroo!!

We used ours a lot on the last trip and didn't notice any gasoline fumes; but we were camped out in the open air. Still, we were close enough to the generator to note that like the truck engine, it bled a bit of water from the exhaust until it got warmed up. None of my little engines smell of gas unless I'm fueling them.

Did you ever find the problem? I'm experiencing the same odor. It has me baffled.

When we had ours, it was the same way after genset was shut off. Smell would eventually go away. Not sure if it was a problem or not.

Hello again Big John! As far as the fuel odor, we still have it. However, I do think it's fuel pump related. Sadly, I'm on the 4th fuel pump with 52 hrs. on the gen set. It's already making some random ticking sounds, and the fuel odor, so I expect to get the 5th very soon, hopefully before the 2 yr. warranty expires.

Also to clarify... All four of out pumps have gone out the same way. Fuel smell, then occasional ticking, then constant ticking, then dead all together.

Great! I will keep listening for the ticking. I only have about 9 hours on the unit.

Geez man. That would get old quick. I can't remember how many hours we had on ours when we sold it. I think it was close to 50 hours or so. At the time, I didn't know of any fuel pump issues like I read about now. It was still working then, but the guy that bought it may be cursing me now.
