Generator / Shore Power Transfer Switch Location
I have a 2014 Forest River Sunseeker 3170DS and need to know where the transfer switch (relay) is located. I've looked in the wall next to the batteries, in the wall where the Battery disconnect switch is. In the Gene compartment. In the compartment with the Converter - I simply can't find it!
Can anyone help?
Thanks for any hints...
George

The transfer switch is usually near the generator with your shore power cord nearby. Have you followed the shore power cord?

Thanks, yes, the shore cord is wired in toward the rear of the rig and the Gene is in the very front - both on drivers side. The shore power heads toward the breaker panel under the bed in the rear. Is it possible that it's behind the breaker panel?

This is a wild guess since we have different years and different but similar models. In the 3051 the transfer box is in the compartment with the water pump and filter. Passenger side immediately behind the rear wheels. Here’s a picture. The area shown is normally covered by a shroud with a trap door to access the water filter for changing.

Well Hidden
Mine is under the drawer in the bathroom vanity. I thought that it would be sheltered from water sources however the tank flush fitting is directly across from it.
Unless someone with your model chimes in, you may find it close to your shore power connection. YMMV

can you hear a 'thunk' from it when it closes the contactors? if so, can you use the 'think' noise to help track it down?

transfer switch should be on the passenger side storage compartment by the water pump. you will have to remove the screws to get back to it.

On my 2015 Sunseeker 2500TS, it is located under the bed next to the AC distribution panel. I had to remove the plywood bed cover to get at it to wire in my surge protector, which I mounted in a storage compartment under the bed.

Here is where my transfer switch is in my Forester 2861, under the mattress board next to the fuse box.

Thanks!
Thank you to all who have pointed me in the direction of my transfer relay switch. After being on the road for the past few days, now with these helpful hints, I will probably find it today (as soon as the rain stops). Especially helpful are the pics so I now know what I'm looking for!

Could you enlighten me? I am looking at the Forester 2351LE. From the conversation I am gathering that you need to unscrew a compartment to access the transfer switch everytime one uses the generator? I am trying to see how that would work when folks are dry camping Is an automatic generator transfer switch easy and economical to install on a LE model?

No you don’t have to do that. It’s an Automatic Transfer Switch.

An Automatic Transfer Switch routes power supply to your coach from either shore power or generator. If both are providing power it shuts one off (usually shore power) and routes the generator power to the coach. That is its mission in life.
If you do not have an automatic transfer switch then you have to do it manually.
That is done by unplugging from the shore power (pedestal) and plugging the end of your power supply cord into an internal female outlet in the coach. Normally, that box, which comes from your genset, is located in the same compartment that your shore power cable box is in. Soooooo you should be able to install an automatic transfer switch in that location without rewiring the whole coach.
Note: Most people leave the power cord plugged into the genset box so they can use genset power while motoring down the road. That is what I did in my old Class A. Only unplugged when I was going to use shore power. Additionally, the cable was not detachable like most coaches with an exterior male outlet.

Transfer Switch Location
From the Specs on your 2014 Sunseeker 3170DS, it appears that you have a 55 amp converter. If this is a WFCO 8955 Converter, it most likely has a WFCO T-30 transfer switch mounted on the back of your Converter. This is easy to confirm by opening your breaker/fuse panel, which is the front of the Converter, and reading the model number. I'm including a .pdf of the WFCO 8900 Series Brochure which shows where the T-30 Switch attaches on the back side of the Converter.
