Hail Damage to Original Equipment Roof Vents

DW noticed this morning that the ceiling vent covers in the bathroom and bedroom are cracked from a recent hail storm. I went up top and used Gorilla Tape to repair the cracks, which were about 3" long on each vent cover. Are these covers difficult to replace? I'm sure the tape will suffice for the short term. What are your suggestions? Love this forum! Thanks in advance. I drive a 2017 Forester 3171DS.

They're simple and normally cheap. All kinds of videos on youtube about replacing them too.

And after you replace them put some vent covers on so this doesn't happen again.

Take one off (just the cover, not the base) and take it with you to the RV parts store. There are several different hinge types. The new ones will be much sturdier, but you still need MaxAir or similar cover. Good Luck!

Those are Hengs fan " noisemaker "and vents and the are not worth fixing. The best thing you can do is replace them with fantastic fans or maxair . They have Lexan covers that are impact proof and will last years and the covers are replaceable. I had the same thing happen to my Hengs vent and fan by hail this summer on a 2 year old RV. The one upgraded fantastic fan didn't have a mark on it. The covers on the Hengs are not made to easily swap out. I wouldn't get another Hengs cover or you will just have to change it again after the next hail storm or tree branch. Vent covers are fine but don't spend the money without upgrading the fans.

Vent covers

X2 and more on the vent covers.
I had replaced all 4 of the original lids the previous year, then installed the covers on 2 of them. We had a hail storm and it beat the crud out of the 2 lids that were not protected and the covers weren't even marked.
I had bought the Camping World inexpensive one and then bought the other 2.

Camping World Vent Cover - Translucent - Direcsource Ltd 32000 - Vents - Camping World

Of course we haven't had any serious hail since then...
Good old Mr. Murphy.

That's exactly what mine looked like after a dime sized hail storm. The fantastic fan ( 3rd vent I had factory upgraded) had no marks at all and that was without a cover. Replaced the Hengs vent and fan with fantastic fans ordered on Amazon. They look great, very quiet and I know they hold up to hail.

Do,yourself a favor and when you replace them also get the max covers for them easy to install and no more worries about when you are away and the vent is left open and it starts to rain.

I thought white may allow more light in? Don't know, but that was the thought, anyway. They're covered . . . That's the main thing, I guess.

Stock vent lids are as fragile as a politicians ego. I'm sure a falling leaf took mine out. You can buy tougher lids (called "lifetime" covers) or go with the max covers as said before.

Changing them seems complicated, but its about the easiest repair you will ever do to your camper.
