Heat Shield in place of cab curtain?

I see a lot of users buying the sun shields for the Sprinter units. While I personally think it looks a bit hokey, its hard to deny how functional they are. Another mfg uses an outside magnet mount privacy cover...while his gives you full access to the cab, if it rains or snows, you have to put away a wet canvas to mold and mildew. It is magnetic, so really provides no privacy it someone wants open it up.

Sunshield: inside mount, reflects sun to keep coach cooler, allows full access to the cab.

What say you?

I kinda like the idea. Been looking for something similar to use instead of the curtain in my Forester 2451s.

I would prefer a heavier cab curtain.

Would like the inside sunshields. Would small ones be used for the side windows also? Would prefer these to a velcro attached curtain. We want to get a E450 based Motorhome

I have tried all sorts of screens, shades etc. when I got my sunseeker. I finally purchased the outside wrap around shield with the see thru panels and except for the yellowing from the sun, 2 years of daily sun shield, it works well. Windshield is cooler to touch and as an added bonus, I can place my wiper blades underneath.

We are currently using the outside wrap around that came with the 1997 mini winnie we bought 8 years ago and still working fine. Covers the windows also. Will probably order one for the Forester 3171 we have on order. Another advantage to the outside cover is, it keeps the windshield clean where ever your are, camping or storing outside.

First purchase for my 2650sf and fits great. Except for the cut out for the mirror total blackout(darker than the shades). Held in place by dash and sunshades side windows fit well and held by suction cups 3 minutes tto set less to take down all roll together in one bundle. Next to surge protector and sewer kit best investment yet for motorhome

I use the outside vinyl cover. It has tabs that slip over the frames of the doors to keep it from being removed without unlocking and opening the doors. As for putting it away wet, it would only be temporarily. When we get home, it goes to the storage yard and I put the cover back on. We like the privacy and it keeps the inside cooler, and the cab area useable.

I purchased Heathers Original HeatShield. I think it was about $80 for the windshield and side cab windows. They are cut perfect for the E 450, have small durable suction cups and a storage bag . I really enjoy having full access to the cab, versus the curtain. I have a wraparound outside cover too, but felt it was a pain installing it , always reaching across the hood and such.
Heat Shields are up in minutes! They are black on the inside and either silver or gold for exterior. Just doing all that I can to keep the heat soak downClick image for larger version

This is what we have used on both of our motor homes. Easy to put up and take down.

Screen and shade

We use both, depending on circumstances. I prefer to use just the curtain at night for privacy. But if we are facing into the afternoon sun I want the sunshade on. Also, because we store our Solera outside in a sunny year around climates I want the interior protected while parked. We bought our sunscreens from: Dodge Sprinter Windshield SunShade Set 2004-2015

We got the Adco 2509 with the cut outs for the mirrors for our Forester 2501 has screens to open side windows Put it in the shower when traveling. Love it.
Our previous RV was a sprinter. I took a sun shade and sewed on side window shields. It worked well too. Able to easily cover the windows for privacy when we pulled in to a site at night in the rain, but couldn't open the windows for air as no screens

We use an exterior cover that has flaps at the door windows with screens built in. It allows us to drop the flaps and roll down the windows for additional breezes. Just raise the flaps in the evening.

Thanks!Just ordered the Heat Shield Gold for our 3050s.We will use this instead of the ugly beige privacy curtain. We do have the outside vinyl one too but harder to put off and on and sometimes like to see out the window during the day.
I am going to attach the existing cab curtains to a nicer fabric ( chocolate brown) -reusing the hooks etc in place.
I also purchased one panel to put on bedroom window when we stay somewhere with lots of sun or lots of lights! As recommended on here will attach to top of valance with some Velcro dots. Thanks again for great ideas!

Sunshades for sure. The curtains take away too much useable space (even if you are not using it to sit in, the radio is there and you have easy access to store items on the front seat, etc.).
I had one of those outside covers and never used it due to the hassle to put it on and off and to store it wet.

I would like it if the heat shield fit over the side windows. The side windows also produce heat and people can look into the motor home.

+1 on the inside screen: 1) we use the swivel seats at camp and so the curtain doesn't work out, 2) radio (and surround TV sound) controls were 'behind the curtain' and out of reach when in my jammies (my remote doesn't work thru the curtain) and 3) when we did use the curtain, inside felt smaller.
