Help finding the hours meter

I have a 2017 Forester 3171DS with an Onan RV QG 4000 Generator and can not find the hours meter. Are they standard equipment? If you have one, could you tell me where it is located? Many thanks.

We have a 2016 3171ds and the same generator. Our hour meter is right next to start button on the main panel inside the RV.

Is your 2017 have the new MyRv system for operating lights and switches. If so then the hour meter is accessible from your control pad

Thanks, all. I checked the inside panel next to the start button, and no meter. I have the MyRv Electronic panel, and I cannot locate the meter. I have also looked on the dash. Could this have been optional?

Check bottom corner of RV control panel where water level, black tank, grey tank, etc is shown.

Update - That's battery info.

Gen hours should be displayed directly above picture of generator on its screen. I just got home and checked mine.

Here is the reply I just received from Forest River: Re:
You will need to contact the Lippert customer service number located in your RV. They can direct you how to change the display to hours.

There is a scroll bar on the panel that shows the tank levels but it wont let you scroll and there does not appear to be any generator hours shown.

I tried the same thing. I sent a text to two reps from Forest River. One response is shared above. Still waiting for the other. I also sent a message to Lippert Customer service. I will post any response I receive.

I would have expected the find the hours on the generator screen but there is nothing except a picture of a generator and the stop/start controls.

Here is what I received from Lippert. I will try it tomorrow.

Alan,

My guess is that the generator is not programmed on the panel screen. I'm sending two manuals for you to use. One is the MyRV owner's manual and the other is the programming manual. The programming manual will tell you how to get the generator icon onto your panel.

Here is what I just received from Forest River Rep. :

Programming Generator Genie Hour Meter

Here are the step by step instructions to program the hour meter on your generator:

1. Press “MyRV Control Panel”

2. Press Yellow MyRV circle “MyRV Control Panel Network Active” in upper left hand corner 5 times

3. Enter Pin (Last four of Software Version number located in lower right hand corner)

4. Press “Done”

5. Press “Configurator”

6. Press “Show All Devices”

7. Press “By Product/Controller”

8. Press “Generator”

9. Press “Hour Meter”

10. Press “Rename”

11. Press “UNKOWN” under “Group” and choose “Hour Meter”

12. Press “UNKOWN” under “Name” and choose “Generator”
13. Press “Send”
14. Press the “home button”
This will take you to the main screen where you should see the “Control Panel Tab”
15. Go in to “Control panel Tab”
16. Choose the Generator App.
You should now see the hour meter displayed in the middle of the screen above the picture of the generator.

Help finding the hours meter

The step by step directions above worked. My generator now shows the hours used.

We have the MyRV tablet in our Forester 2861DS. There is a Generator icon (along with other icons like Slides and Lights). If you press that icon you are taken to a page that shows a drawing of a generator. This is where you start your generator from the MyRV tablet. Our Hours Meter is displayed right over the drawing of the generator.

Thanks. That is the way mine looks now, after adding the hours meter. It wasn't there before. Interesting enough, once I loaded the meter, it shows the exact number of hours as yours. 17.0. After I run it a few times I'll see if it increases!

Do not be surprised if it does not increase. Ours stayed at 17 hours no matter how long we ran it. I called Lippert and they knew as soon as I said "17 hours" that the problem was "a bad batch of generator genies". I was told the genie is plug and play and they could send me one to install myself but that doing so would void the warranty so we took ours to a dealer and had it replaced under warranty. Another reader here on the forum had the same issue, was not told about the warranty being voided when he called Lippert, and had the genie shipped to him directly. He replaced it and has no problem now.

When our generator hours did not show we were initially told by Lippert to take the steps outlined above. We could not get step number 2 to work and still cannot. Our generator hours display was fixed by having the generator genie replaced but I am still concerned that I cannot get the tablet to enter this configuration mode and have a call in to Lippert to discuss this.
