How to stop the water...
When I emptied my water heater last week, I found a puddle of water inside the compartment located outside the camper underneath the water heater. I checked for leaks under the water heater and everything was fine. I guess the water is filtrating via the door compartment. What kind of tape I need to use to seal the compartment when is closed?

Actually it could be your pressure relief valve located on the heater itself. (Funny looking spigot with the stainless handle) Is the trailer plugged in and did you turn off the switch for electric?

No the pressure relief valve is good. When I emptied the water heater tank the six gallons of water pour out, and the water filtered to the outside of the underneath compartment. I am pretty sure that the compartment gasket is worn out. What kind of gasket or double side tape I will need to pelace the old one.

I would actually use a silicone, flexible, heat resistant caulk.

On the underneath storage compartment? okay I will try clear silicone and let it dry prior of closing the storage compartment or else, I will have to pry the door, not a good thing.

I assume your water heater is in it own compartment, and you think that the water somehow seeped into the compartment below it through a door seam or something like that? I am only guessing here as I have no photo. I am sure if it is just gasket material, your local Home Depot, Lowes, or RV store will have it.

another thought is the door could be out of adjustment and incapable of sealing...you will have to do a visual there to see if you can tell.

I will do that, but when I checked the door this week, the seal looked worn out, and it had a very small rip in the top of it. Remember is not a rubber seal but the tape kind of seal.

ok....that clarifies stuff. I would like a rubbery seal just for the extra assurance being that it keeps the outside from getting inside. You can get the seals that have sticky back, and are rubber or silicone, and have like a tunnel underneat the seal which allows for the seal to vary to different bends on the contacted surface...etc....

I'm not sure I completely get how the water is leaking in. What you see on the outside of the water heater is normally a pan fitting around it that lips over the cut-out and fastens to the TT with screws. Between that lip and the TT skin is a layer of caulking tape that rarely causes a problem.
I can't quite imagine any water that is released outside getting back in. How old is the heater? and is it an Atwood (above) or Suburban?

It is leaking from when he drained his heater into his storage bin below.....through the door.

oh yeah, I see that now. Man I spent 10 minutes figuring out how to pull that pic from the pdf brochure. Why in heck would anybody install a storage compartment under a water heater?

thank you for taking the time to download the water heater pic. I purchased some of the tape that RetiredArmyCWO suggested, and I will work on it this this weekend. hopefully this will stop the leak under the storage compartment. Tell me about it, maybe the builder had some drinks prior to designing the camper.
