Issue new 2013 Sunseeker 3170 generator kills

Just picked up my New RV and the Onan 4000 keeps shutting down for no reason, even with the coach engine off. Any ideas?

I've seen some posts regarding fuel pumps and fuel filters.
Others with a similar issue should chime in.

Make sure the oil is full. I think this model has low oil shutdown, and can be very sensitive. It's shutting down for a reason, you just have to figure out why, or since it is new, let the dealer fix it under warranty.

You do have at least a quarter tank of gas right?

Yes, I have a 3\4 tank of gas and the oil is full. I also have the gas cap on with only one click. Do not know if it matters. It does this with coach engine off. Don't they test this at the factory. I just picked it up at the des moines location from RVdirect. When I get home I will put my meters on it to see voltage and Hz.

Earlier this month we picked up a new 2013 Sunseeker 3100 from RVDirect in Buffalo. The Onan starts with the coach engine off (at least for the 3 times we've tried to start it so far). I think the gas cap thing is just when driving with the generator on but I'm not totally sure about that.

I had issues with my brand new 3170DS as well. When it dies and you try to restart it is the fuel pump making a ticking sound? If so then it's fuel related. There is a Phillips screw on the carburetor bowl its the drain valve loosen it up while holding the prime button on the generator and see if it's pumping. If its not try unscrewing the gas cap all the way and try that. My unit has some strange vacuum/pressure issue that works fine with the cap barely tightened??? Let me know what you find. I know it's very frustrating to have issues with a brand new unit. But we truly love ours.

How long is it running before it shuts off? Do you know how to check the trouble shooting codes?

I'm assuming by shuts off you mean it completely dies? Drawing too many amps should not cause the genny to die, it should just trip a breaker.

My 3 Onans have been used well over 2000 hours and only 1 has had a serious issue so hopefully it's an easy fix.

It just started working after the second week I got motorhome. Never had as problem again. I think it was shut down because it was new and needed to be broken in. Soon after I got it generator ran for four days straight after storm passed till power was restore in my home. All is well with it now.

In June on the way back from Florida my onan on my 2014 3170ds shut down and would not restart. Found a onan service center the tech found and replaced a bad fuel pump. The codes were for unspecified error

2013 Forester #3051S

Mine goes to Cummins Onan Service Center on Friday. I get a raw gasoline odor inside coach after running the generator.

We had an issue where ours ran ruff and would shut down... These carbs gums up quickly....They replaced the carb, and it runs like a champ...We keep stay-built in ours all the time, and I run it about 1/2 hour every other week with a load on it...Have not had the problem since...
