Issues with brand new 2371FTD, Josua Cavitt

Hello everybody

Yesterday, we received our "brand new Forester 2371FTD" and are already having lots of problems:
  1. The black water can't be drained properly due to flawed design, there is now way to get the sewer hose through the hole in the compartment and attach it to the pipe (see pictures)

  2. Passenger seat doesn't move backwards
  3. Passenger side twin bed motor stopped working after first try, bed stuck in the middle
  4. The seal on the window behind the love seat is broken, it's all foggy between the 2 panes and scratched up outside

  5. One of the outside compartment doors doesn't stay closed
  6. Most manuals are missing and we only received the warranty/registration card for the A/C, nothing else

  7. and some other issues

Besides, we haven't even tested everything everything yet.

Is this how the black water draining system should look like - Josua Cavitt?

Thanks in advance.

When you say "brand new'' do you mean new to you? Because the photos portray a used RV. And these issues should have been obvious on your PDI inspection whether new or used.

I am sure you can get all the guidance you need in this forum.

Yes, brand new 2017 model, has never been sold before. Unfortunately, we didn't receive a copy of the PDI Checklist nor the Forest River Customer Delivery & Warranty Form. We didn't know about those until after the purchase, when we started reading the Forest River Owner's Manual.

The day after the purchase, while trying to familiarize ourselves with the coach, we noticed that the black water tank was 2/3 full and went to the RV Park to dump it. That's when we realized, that it is impossible to feed the sewer hose through the hole in the bottom of the compartment and attach it to the black water drain as we were instructed. We then attached the hose directly through the compartment opening to the drain, but like that it didn't drain well, because the rim of the compartment opening is higher than the drain, so the hose goes up first and then down. We started looking around for a solution, saw the patched up wall in the back of the compartment and then noticed all that insulation foam around the black water drain underneath the coach. To us it looks like an amateur was tinkering around, trying to fix something. We sent the dealer a picture and told him that such a bad hack job is unacceptable, to what he replied, "all of those Foresteres have this". We really can't believe that this is how Forest River builds their coaches. Do you? Anybody?

Sorry to hear. I agree with Delco, it does not appear new. The bolts are, but the u-bracket is rusted. Poor workmanship indeed. Possible somebody switched out the tank and put this one in? Feel the dealer out and if that does not work contact manufacture. Send in writing as well, along with all other issues found. My thought is dealer.

You need a 90 for the sewer outlet.

More questions:

What model year is it?

Did you get an "A'' title?

Name of dealer?

Why was there no PDI, did dealer offer one?

Kenny kustom,
Thank you for your suggestion. Unfortunately, that won't work, because the drain ends too far over the hole, almost half way.

poppytoymaker,
The odometer read 2441 miles, but it was driven to the destination, which is at least 2350 miles.

Delco Bobby,
It's a 2017 and we received 2 "Certificate of Origin for a Vehicle", one from Ford and one from Forest River Inc. We bought the RV from Revy RV Vancouver Island. They did not offer a PDI.

First, notify FR headquarters about this issue and the comments of the dealer. Give them your vin # as they track everything by vin the last I knew. It is difficult for me to understand how and why the dealer let you out of the yard with a black tank full of sewage! Further I can't seem to grasp why the tank was that full! Had this been rented to someone or used at a show? What mileage is on the unit now and how far are you from the dealer. It is not unusual to see some delivery mileage on new units within reason. Also not unusual to see issues with new units. Sounds like most of these things should be fixed under warranty by the dealer. As shown above the fix for the black tank is a elbow. The dealer should have been able to tell you that on the first call or at least at the PDI.
Good luck with this. keep us posted.

tetra, I wish you would've found this forum BEFORE you bought your RV.
I've NEVER heard a dealer not offer a PDI or walkthrough on a new RV.
FR definitely needs to know this dealer didn't offer one.

FR will help their customer and possibly suggest another dealer to help in the future. Doubt they will have anything to say to his dealer about the business practices.

wogden, thank you for your input.
I should clarify, the dealer had the RV driven to us by the sales person, because they had a customer, who wanted to buy our trade-in and didn't want to wait until we had some spare time to drive to Vancouver Island. The driver might have been using the washroom while on the way to us.
The dealership agreed to fix everything that is not working and replace the window, but haven't addressed the black water drain any further, keeps saying it looks the same on the other Forester RVs. Unfortunately, the elbow mentioned previously won't fit, the drain is too far over the hole and too low.

Are you sure the 90 wonít work?
Have you tried one? They are pretty compact.

bikendan, the sales person did do a walk-through, explaining how things work. He did a pretty good job, because we were able get everything to work the next day, besides the bed, passenger seat and the proper black water drainage. The bed and the seat worked once then got stuck, bad luck. It looks as if the black water drain got moved after manufacturing, at least that is what our mechanic friend thinks.
We'll be contacting Forest River this week. Thanks for the input.

A couple of things that might help...

Does your passenger seat have the swivel base? If so we've found the seat has to be in perfect alignment, from left to right, for the seat to slide forward or backward. If the seat is not a swivel base any Ford dealer should be able to handle that as it is a chassis issue then...

The window behind your love seat is a Dometic acrylic (plastic) window, not glass. They are not thermal pane style windows with two layers of glass. It comes with a protective film over it, to prevent scratching, that should have been removed. I'd look at that first as it could make it look foggy.

All of your windows, except for the Ford cab glass, and "house" door glass, are the Dometic acrylic windows. Dometic recommends that you not use regular glass cleaners on the acrylic windows, over time it can damage them. I've attached a .pdf from Dometic's website that shows how to use them and the window blinds. See Section 8 for cleaning info.

Your sewer hook up looks totally different than on our TS 2390 so unfortunately I can't help you on it....

Hope this helps some...
