Leak while Flushing Black Water Tank

We've had our 2401R not too long and have never tried to flush the black water holding tank. When we tried it today after dumping the tank, water came out from under the RV as soon as we turned the hose on, roughly where the hose was connected. Is there some valve that should have been closed? I thought you just sprayed water in and it ran out the sewer hose that was still connected.

Thanks for any help you can give. We're not going to try that again until we know what's going on. Incidentally, how often should we be flushing the tank?

Here is a typical cleanout system drawing. Your check valve could be under the vanity or in a closet or just about anywhere as the location varies by type and model unit. Not saying that is where the leak is coming from. This drawing may help with understanding the cleanout system.
