Maiden Voyage

Picked up our 3170DS this past weekend. After a week in the driveway checking systems and loading too much stuff we are taking our maiden voyage/shake down trip this weekend. What should I be checking for on the maiden voyage? We were able to exercise most systems, except 30A Shorepower, in the driveway.

Check for water issues. Exterior water leaks in particular but also look at all of your plumbing for leaks. There were 6 places on our unit that leaked around fittings and such. Easy fixes as long as you see them before a flood! Also make sure you can fill your fresh tank. On ours and some others the relative height of the vent tube causes an air lock that didn't allow the tank to fill. Again it was a easy fix (a few wire tires to avoid a trap in the vent tube) but it sure had me scratching my head for a while!

When you can, run your LP furnace with the door and windows open. The first 15 minutes or so it burns off oil from manufacturing and may smoke. We set off our smoke alarm at 6 am in the campground. Not a good way to make friends.

Roll Tide.

On the Sunseeker, the fresh water tank vents through a small screen on the same fitting as the fresh water fill fitting.

Some people have encountered problems with poor venting resulting in having to fill the tank very slowly because the vent tubing from the tank to this vent fitting sags. When it gets water in it, the water can't drain, and the tank can't vent properly. It has to vent through the fill tube against the incoming flow of water. If you're having this problem look at your vent tubing and tie it up to keep it sloping down to the tank.

On mine (3010ds), the fresh tank and vent tube can be accessed under the rear bed. I am not sure if your tank would be at the same place or not.

Talking

Thanks to everyone for the replies. Had a great trip. We surfaced no issues with the 3170DS but a lot of issues with our setup/take down process. After 10 years in a pop-up, it was great to back-in, level, open awning, retrieve chair, open beverage.
