Exclamation Maintenance Check

Subject is the Level-Up pump assembly 196471. The pump assembly sits in a flat metal bracket that is bolted to the mounting arm that is welded to the drivers side frame rail. Since there are many reports of the welds on the mounting arm failing I had added this check to my chassis inspection. Did that today and found that the two 5/16 mounting bolts were missing the nuts. I replaced the missing nuts and used blue loctite on the threads. I would have used nylon locknuts had I had time to get them.

An additional concern is that if the pump assembly can bounce up and down it would add additional stress to the arm welds. Nothing good can come of that.

Details: GTS 2800QS built 10/2017 on the ‘17 E450 Chassis. 22k miles.

Thanks for the warning. A photo of your leveler pump and it’s mounting bracket would be helpful.

On my 2020 chassis, built in 2019, I noted that the LCI hydraulic leveling pump mounting bracket looked, to the layman, like a very flimsy affair. During the later installation of our LiquidSpring system, the LS guys unnecessarily further compromised the integrity of the leveler pump/reservoir mounting bracket. I made them go back and significantly strengthen the bracket since they had messed it up. Now it looks much sturdier. Nonetheless, I would urge any owner of this LCI leveling system on a class C to perform frequent inspections.

This is a photo posted by ktobias in August of last year. He had the frame mount failure report that caused me to inspect mine regularly. His is the same pump assembly and mounting arm that I have. You can clearly see the bolts in the channel.
