I would be happy with either one. I think that it will look nice as an accent on pillows and valance. Color dates things, but these items are easily and cheaply update able.

You wouldn't put that pattern on the outside ,so why not try putting the outside patterns to work on the inside?

One of the more popular living rooms on Houzz.

Neutral, but with a pop of contrast/pizazz in the pillows.

You'd rather have colors that 100% of the people can live with as opposed to an awesome color that 20% of the people love 80% hate.

having said that, I think we can get a little more bold in our colors choices by using them on pillows only and I'm working on an easily changeable valance as well.
I would go with #2 and then add solid teal throw pillows to the sofa. In the bedroom you could do a teal bedspread with yellow pillows to accent it. I like the houzz colors (just not the pillows in that pic) you posted.

I agree with Platokidd and prefer #1. I prefer a neutral background where I can add splashes of whatever color I happen to like best at a particular time and wouldn't want to be limited by the teal and yellow of choice #2

Both choices seem fine to me. #2 does have a deep color however both choices very easily could be spiced up. Still like the darker sofa, hides spots or as we do, put a slip cover over it that is a lighter color. Easy to throw in laundry after each trip and the dogs won't destroy the leather. The valances you can change have my vote already! Can't wait to change mine out if I choose.

Valances

Bolder colors for window valances is great idea. Offer 3 or 4 different choices (maybe dark red pattern, greens, blues, Teal etc) that way with solid color sofa and dinette seats everyone could come up with something they like.
