Makes sure junk does not go through the pump from your tank. It is a water filter of sorts for large debris.

In as much as it appears to be on a water line, not sure if hot or cold, in line water filter screen. Not very effective for micro filter but would keep large items from passing. It could be some type of backflow filter. Is it on the cold or hot water?

It should be on the inlet line between the tank and pump. Do not forget to drain this when winterizing or you will have a surprise at the end of winter...

Yes that is on the input side of the pump to keep larger objects from gumming up the works (plastic pieces or dirt) that can come up out of your water tank.

Yup inlet side of pump. Did not drain before winter. Did not have one on my other units. I think it cracked slightly. I have a small drip from it. At least now I know what to order. Thanks everyone!

I agree that the thingy is a filter but I'm confused about the tee in the piping above the filter. Mine doesn't have one as it just goes to the tank. Can't think of what else would be connected to the pump inlet.

If water is left in the filter bowl it could (would) freeze. IF the bowl is cracked from freezing, You can get a replacement at most RV stores. If it is just dripping and not cracked, it may only need some teflon tape on the threads.
