It is hot in the south. Took a trip through Texas in 2016 Sunseeker 3010ds with Onan generator. I used the ginney most the day and overnight. I was surprised to see that I needed to add oil after. Is this normal? Also how many hours before I should change oil? Can I use synthetic?

All of your Gen questions can be answered in your Gen service manual/operators! Every engine manual says "CHECK Engine OIL BEFORE Operating"! That really means Every Day! Youroo!!

Do you know that your oil level was full before you started?

I see you don't have a manual. I don't either LOL. Try going to the Onan (I assume you have) website and downloading the manual, it's probably there. You should use whatever oil they recommend, especially while under warranty.

Recommended changing oil after 25 hours, I beleive the new ONAN oil is a synthetic. I will only use the ONAN oil .

I inquired on this forum last month about the Gen Oil and for the first time struck out
What I learned from talking to two RV Techs and Two Onan Techs
Change oil often if yours doesn't have oil filter (like mine) 50-100 hours less if conditions are harsh.Your oil change IS your filter.
Use ONAN Onmax.You will never harm it and if you ever have a problem they will back up their oil but not necessarily any other oil.
It's an easy job I've done it Twice and I'm at 100 hours on a 2014

It's not unusual for the gen to use some oil. Mine has about 48 hours and is almost down to the add line. Make sure you are level and the cap is screwed all the way in when you check it.

I believe the manual says to change the oil every 75 hours or one year, whichever occurs first. I have not done mine yet since we had to leave on our current trip 2 weeks sooner than expected. You may find with your Sunseeker that you will have to move the exhaust pipe back about an inch or so to get access the the cover and you will need a star bit I think to remove the cover to get to the drain plug. I am sure somebody will correct me on this if I am wrong.

The manual is on a CD disk and the entire packet should have been wired to the Onan Generator. located under a cover on your Motor Home.. did you by chance ever open that cover to see if anything may have been hiding there.

As an owner it is your responsibility to do general maintenance on your motorhome, unless of course you prefer dropping it off at your dealership and letting it sit there for only god knows how long before they even get a chance to look at it.

They will use a bit of oil every 8hrs or so. Maybe .5-1 oz , not much. I've got 500+hrs on our 4k Onan and oil useage is still about the same. I fill to the halfway mark as it seems to keep the "burping" oil out the air filter to a min.
