No hot water :(
Hello!
2022 Forrester Sunseeker 3040DS. Hot water used to work, suddenly does not. Was not winterized (kept in insulated warm garage). Propane or electric. There is propane available. There is water in the water heater (cold). No breaker tripped. Is there a fix out there? A reset button?
Thank you all!!!

Shall we assume your WH is a dometic variant of the old atwood?
Also worth mentioning is that I am fairly certain there is no 2022 3040DS Sunseeker. However, it is your first post so consideration is given.
If you do not know what you have please consider posting a photo.

Hi,
It is a Dometic water heater. Gas and electric. It is a 3041DS (we ordered it brand new). I can snap a pic of the water heater. It worked great for the first few outings and then just stopped working while dry camping last summer. Just taking it out this year and still no hot water. The mobile mechanic we use mentioned it is a quick fix but not sure what that entails...

Moat likely it's the thermal cut off fuse link. Let me get you a previous thread on such.

Here is a thread that will show you what/where the thermal cut off fuse is on Dometic brand water heaters as well as how to bypass to test if the fuse is bad. This cut-off fuse is a common thing to go out and when it does, neither the electric or gas modes of heating will work

OK, a model number that ends in 1 is a Forest River Forester. A model number that ends in 0 is a Forest River Sunseeker. In 2022 there is no 3040 or 3041.
The Atwood predecessor of your WH had a 2A fuse on the potted circuit card just above the ignitor connection. There is also a safety connector between the thermostat and power supply. Your unit may or may not have either of those gems.
When you turn on the gas water heat, do you hear the gas solenoid valve click followed by the ignitor sparking?
Edit: The link is in post 5 of Wmtire’s ref. The fuse is in post 9.

Hello again,
Husband checked and the thermal cutoff fuse appears intact. Should we change it anyway? Dumb question I am sure, but Rv's are odd mechanics...

Did you bypass it to test for sure? The member in the link I provided also thought their thermal link was good, but it wasnt.

Is it tankless or tank. My Tankless Atwood trips sometimes and there is a reset button on the front of it.

Running on propane requires propane (no surprise) and 12v DC.
Running on 120vAC requires -- you guessed it -- 120vAC.
You're saying neither of these work?

Could the HW tank be in bypass mode?

That would certainly be good to check.
Many folks think if they have flow out the hot water side of a faucet, there is water in the water heater tank but that isn't true. In bypass, water will still flow from the faucets and it is designed that way for winterization purposes.
The only 100% way to know you have water in the water heater tank is to open the T&P valve. (temperature & pressure pop-off)

According to the original post #1, the unit was never winterized.

Thanks Bobby... I had forgotten that bit of information in this thread.

That's not necessarily true. If you leave the plug/anode rod out, turn the water on and it starts coming out that hole, you know there's water going to the WH.
Ask me how I know.

True... I suppose I should have said to know if it is "full".
Hopefully, no one would turn the element on with the plug/anode out even if there is water flowing out the hole!

When our 2020 Sunseeker was new in 2019, the water heater worked fine at the PDI. It was not long after, at home, that I tested the water heater and it would not light the propane or heat on electric. If I recall correctly I “fiddled” with the water temperature sensor on the tank, which controls both heat sources. The heater then worked. I have long since replaced the sensor with an adjustable one, but the initial no heat problem never returned.
I would make sure you have 12 volts DC supplied to the heater circuitry for control functions. Beyond that, troubleshooting the circuit with a meter would be my next move. On the Dometic, the electrical schematic is likely on a label affixed to the heater.

For this problem, the water heater model number would be far more important than the RV model, but I'm still confused as the 2022 Forester brochure lists no model as 3041DS.
