Ok to use a 50 to 30 amp converter?

Does it cause any issues to connect to a 50 amp service in a 30 amp RV using a converter cable?

Do it any time I have a 50 available. I find that the 50s are tighter to plug into and during times we camp in crowded camp grounds, using the 50 insures getting 30 amps for service.

Would this be a good adapter?

That's good to know. Thanks.

The correct terminology is an adapter. A converter is an electric device inside your rig.

I call it a dog bone because I like that term. Like A32Deuce I use it regularly. My experience has been that park 30A breakers become “weak” more frequently than the 50A side. The benefit I find is that by using a dog bone my panel breaker becomes the primary limiter rather than the pedestal. I prefer that especially when the fur kid is inside.

I also usually use the 50 to 30 adapter. I also have the 30 to 15 to run my electric grill and i leave the usual 15 amp plug for the cart to charge. I guess im a Ped Hog

I use a 50 amp male to two 30 amp females, our 5th wheel has two 30 amp power cables. One goes to the power management panel and the other goes to a second roof top air conditioning unit I added.

Interesting thoughts

I was reading threads on another forum and saw a post from a user that was threatened with expulsion from an RV park over electricity. Apparently they charged differently somehow based on what amp site you asked for. She had asked for a 30 and when the camp manager saw her plugged into a 50 amp receptacle, he accused her of stealing electricity. She sad said no amount of arguing would convince they guy that the dogleg adapter she was using only pulled 30 amps.

She gave in and finally just changed it. She never said why she was plugged into the 50 amp and now I know.

Thanks

Chuck and Katie
