Ordering Parts From Forest River

The door lock is broken on my Forester and I’ve been having problems getting the correct replacement. How do I order a replacement from Forestriver?

Several times I have read that Forest River does not sell parts to customers. They say to see your dealer. This may depend on each division.

X2 And some divisions may have a price cap. For example, Prime Time won't sell customer direct if the part/product is over $50.

Contact your dealer. If your dealer won't help you let us all know so we never buy a RV from them. This is a simple transaction. You should be able to call your dealer, order the part and get it shipped to your door.

I was able to order a lift kit for my 8289WS direct from Foresr River and have it shipped to my door. Unfortunately my dealer didn't know this kit even existed and suggested a lift munufactured by a local trailer welding shop. You do need your VIN number so they know the exact unit.

There are very few, if any pure OEM parts. They all buy their parts from third party manufacturers. Almost any door lock will work

Do yourself a favor and upgrade to a keyless lock from these guys:

https://www.rvlock.com/

I put one on my Sunseeker and really like the product. Keypad entry.

Good luck with anything from FR! Our tech has been trying to get a replacement ladder for our Rockwood Ultra Lite for 3 months. He even went to another RV repair service Neither have they been had any success. Now a friend in our camping club has had the ladder on his new FR3 crack and is also having a problem getting one from FR.

Certainly adds to my fount of knowledge when I go looking for my next rig!

According to Trimark, FR purchases the less expensive lock that has a cast "plunger", not the steel one. Contact Trimark to get the model number of the better lock and then purchase the entire unit for less online. Trimark will sell you the outside half of the lock indicating tha is all you need. I ended up doing this for my Sunseeker. Yes, i had to remove the 2 additional 'tabs' to make it fit properly, but for $40 less for a full lock, it was worth the extra 10 minutes.

I ordered my lift kit direct from Dexter for my 8289WS. They will need your axel serial number.

I'd use RV lock. Excellent locks and great customer service.

Forest River will sometimes ship a part to you under warranty.
For me, in one case, replacement dometic refrigerator handle. In another case they want an "authorized Forest River dealer" to order and install an undercabinet light and the 18 foot Solera electric awning.
That involves sending the dealer a photo of the light with the model number visible and a photo of the awning tag that's stuck to the roller and shows all the needed info.
Again, this is warranty work.

Best idea so far is buying a keyless lock. The locks the dealer/manufacturer will provide aren't secure because the variety of keying is so minimal. Same for the locks on cellar storage bins. The dealer who sold me my first RV told me he had a key for any lock all on the same ring.

Thanks for the responses.

I tried the keyless lock...3 times. First was wrong model (said to fit most), next arrived with locking knobs broken ( they ship in a retail type box tightly stuffed in a priority envelope), 3rd & last wouldn’t work...alignment studs were to short & paddle handle struck screen door so it wouldn’t latch.

Wish I’d seen TryingToLearn response, ordered a replacement from Amazon, still waiting. What "tabs"had to be modified ?
