Oven question

I bought my Forester 3 years ago and have never used the gas oven - always used the microwave. I tried to use it recently and iould not get it to light - plenty of LP. Do I need to clean something, assuming there might be a dust clog or something?

You may have to clean something, but I doubt it.

On my oven I have to:

Turn the knob to pilot, and push the knob in.

Place a lighter under the pilot light area, and continue to hold the pilot knob in. I might take some time for the pilot to light.

When the pilot lites, continue to hold the pilot light knob in. This allows the thermocouple to heat up, recognizing that the stove now has flame. If you release the pilot knob too early, the flame will go out.

Leave it on pilot for a couple of minutes, then turn the oven know to the desired temperature.

the oven must be lit with a long match. Why it does not have a spark igniter like the stove top is beyond me.

I will look for a PDF of the range/oven and post if I can find it.

No luck so far. Anyone have a PDF of a Suburban Slide In Range with Oven?

I think the reason is because of the valve design the top burners have no pilot and you can see them light. The oven on the other hand has a standing pilot that you turn on and light. If you had spark igniters and turned the valve on for the oven with out lighting the pilot i.e. didn't check to see if it was lit then oven would fill with raw gas and the first time you tried to light a top burner then blam you could blow yourself and the trailer to pieces!! IMHO that is why they don't do it.

I guess I meant a "pilotless" ignition system like the burners.
There has to be a way to do that without the explosion risk.
Newer gas ovens do not require matches do they?

Mine is fairly new 2011 and it still has the standing pilot.

My house oven which is propane has a Glow unit which gets white hot before it will light and stays that way the whole time the oven calls for heat. Also I think if you had a simular system on the RV it would drain the batterys and would be of no use dry camping.
