Passenger swivel seat usable?

Hi all. We're taking possession of our 2022 Forester Classic 3051 in December after they replace the driver seat with a motorized one. The passenger seat is NOT a swivel. Do folks recommend we ask the dealer to put that in? In other words, is it useful for the passenger?

Thank you for this forum.

After reviewing your floor plan…..I suspect there won’t be much room for actually using the swivel seat with the sofa so close.

Only you can tell, but I’m not sure it will swivel to any significant degree, and it certainly won’t be for watching TV in your Trekker layout.

I concur with Ken&Terry... There's no room for it to swivel to as the sofa is in the way.

Even if it could, good luck getting a swivel that works if you have the E-series or GM chassis. The chassis that better permits a swivel is the Mercedes, but at least there's more room for a passenger seat swivel on the Chevy. I've re-manufactured a swivel for our Chevy, and while it wasn't an easy task, it provides better seating when stationary than we had before. I can post a link to my experience upon request.

We have an SOB Jayco class c. Swivel seats are useless. Very difficult to swivel and then they are much lower than the other seats.

The specs on that unit says that there is an optional swivel passenger seat, but after looking at the interior view, I agree, it doesn't look like you've got room to swivel that seat. There's a sofa in the way. Couldn't hurt to ask if it actually works.

On Forester and Sunseeker Classic Ford E-Series floor plans that have the coach door behind the passenger seat, you have room to slide the seat all the way back for passenger legroom during travel, and there is plenty of room to swivel the passenger seat around during camping and making it usable. We use our passenger swivel seat often in our 2440DS. It’s also a great place to sit and put your shoes on before exiting the camper, since the swivel seat is right by the door.

On floor plans that have the dinette or sofa immediately behind the cab passenger seat, I wouldn’t advise getting the swivel option as the space is then very limited.

The swivel seat is not something you would use while driving/traveling. It takes a specific process to swivel it around without interference. You’d only swivel it when you are set up at a campsite.

During our search for a class c RV DW and I had swivels seats as an option we absolutely wanted. I must say after 1 1/2 years of using the RV we have not once used the swivel seat. Even playing around in the driveway it is very uncomfortable.

We have the swivel passenger seat in our 3011DS and we use it a lot when we are camped. It opens up more useable space with that floorplan. It took a few attempts to learn how to properly use the swivel but once you get the knack it is quite easy to use. It came with a booster cushion to raise you up since the seat is a bit lower in the cab area but we rarely use the booster. The seat is fine without it. We have the power driver seat so it does not swivel.

Ours is in use nearly every time we stop for a meal or overnight. It's a great place for me to get out of the way!

We also have a 2440DS and love the swivel seat for exactly the same reason. And it came with an extra pad to make it the same height as the rest of the seats (which seemed kind of silly to me at first, but works great).

Reviewing the thread so far, it appears that those that use and enjoy their passenger swivel seat have a floor plan where the coach entry door is immediately behind the cab passenger seat. Floor plans that favor the swivel seat mentioned so far were (2) 2440DS, 3011DS, and 2250LE.

Swiveling

I have driver and passenger swivel seats. The drivers side is seldom used and if I had my druthers it would be a power seat. The passenger seat is useable in my floor plan and we do use it when it is cool enough not to have the thermal curtain closed. I do not have the entry behind the seat configuration and there is plenty of room. I do need to use the bolster/booster seat cushion so a crane is not needed to get up off the floor.

You do not have the coach entry behind the cab passenger seat, but I understand you have a slide out there, which opens up space to swivel the passenger seat. Slide outs forward on the curb/patio side are rare in class C’s. Nowadays, I don’t think any current Forester or Sunseeker has one.

Regarding the 3051 mentioned in post #1, when I walked through one (actually a 3050) while shopping, I didn’t think there was even room to slide the forward facing passenger seat all the way back for maximum legroom.

We have it in our SS 3010DS and really like it. Turn it around for extra room, any time we are camped for 2 or more days!! Like others, the booster cushion is more trouble than its worth.

I never noticed that. It is the opposing forward slides that make the unit so much more livable. Especially on a narrower build.

Theater seats or jacknife sofa?

I was told the passenger swivel seat isn't an available option in the 3051 if you have the optional theater seats.

As far as swivel options go……

If the driver seat is optioned with “power seat” it does NOT swivel.

As far as the passenger seat, any floor plan with a sofa, love-seat, theatre seat, directly behind, will probably NOT provide enough space to effectively swivel around to be useful. At best…..you might turn the seat 90 degrees.
Also….as has been stated, these floor plans don’t usually allow full travel forward and backward on the seat tracks for the passenger leg room.

We have the power drivers seat and swivel passenger seat. Although we don't always us the swivel seat if constantly on the road, it is a nice feature which we use and enjoy when parked and staying a few days. If it is nice weather and we are outside most of the time, we don't bother. Great option though depending on the model you have, of course.

What model is your RV? (Adding that info to your signature is helpful). I was curious what floor plan you have that it works well with the passenger swivel seat.
