Angry potential problem

Hi,

I just finished washing my 2021 2860 and noticed a piece of metal trim, at the bottom of the camper box, behind the fiberglass cab step had fallen off. It appears Forest River used only one screw top hold it on. There was sand and dirt in the piece and when I felt where it has fallen off, it sure felt spongy!
On the drivers side, I don't see any piece of trim, so it may have fallen off sometime in the past. Again, feeling under the panel, it feels spongy.
I fear water has infiltrated the OSB board that is used in the construction of these things. Dang, the camper is only a year old to us, which hurts, because it was purchased used with only 4200 miles on it.
Anyone else had a similar issue in these areas?

Are you talking about the flat surface aft of the cab doors? If so, yes mine were completely rotten out on a 2 year old 2860DS. A permanent repair would have cost thousands which i didn't have. I took out a good portion of the rotten wood which was all dry, I left the Black backing material in place and taped it closed allowing only a small hole. I filled the entire cavity with the expanding insulating foam. Its been that way for a year now. only i know its there..and no issues. the End cap fell off with the last owner. water wicks up and rots that area quick. Forgot to add, the rot never made it all the way up to the sub floor.. left side ( drivers side) about 4 inches up, on the right side almost a foot. both sides are now hard has a rock with the expanding foam and nothing wicks up any more.
