Propane tank locked out?

Accidentally ran my propane tank dry last fall. Figured I would Just fill it up this spring. Took it to my usual place and he said the tank is locked and won’t allow it to be filled. Took it to another place for a 2nd opinion and he had the same issue. Now what do I do? RV repair shop or Propane company? Probably calling both tomorrow but wanted to see if anybody else has ever had this problem.

Sounds like the overflow shutoff valve is stuck. You can possibly unstick by using a rubber hammer to hit the fill valve opening, but if it failed once it’s going to fail again.

You can replace it with a straight through fitting via Amazon for $28. The exact replacement is around $65. Remember to crack the vent valve when filling. When it starts to spew liquid stop the inflow. Much more accurate.

Or just take the tank to a propane exchange place like Lowe’s and get a different tank.

The problem is posted under the Forester and Sunseeker forum, and is with a chassis mounted propane tank in a motorhome. Not the portable tanks as with trailers.

Local propane dealer can fix or replace it.

Took it to a real propane and fuel place that deals with RVs all the time and it filled without an issue. Guy thinks the other places had issues with their fill pressure or attachments. Don’t know, don’t care. Glad it’s working and I found another local business to support.

Unless it is a 7 gallon tank. The only ones Ive seen at the exchange places are 5 gallon tanks.

One of you Forester/Sunseeker guys should post a pic of your chassis mounted propane tank so removable tank people could get a better understanding.
