Purchased a 3170DS

Very excited - wanted to say hello and thanks for the forum and all the great info I've been finding the last week or so.

It's a 2013, looks like it was well cared for.

We're relatively new to rv'ing and I have been reading this and other forums A LOT. This will primarily be a weekender for the family - three young kids. I grew up going all over in an old dodge class c and then some trips with friends in class a's. So while the experience won't be totally new, being responsible for driving, paying for gas and emptying the tanks will be :-)

I am trying to figure out a list of first purchases to support a close to home opening weekend trip; that has raised many questions.

I cant' seem to find what comes "standard" on this model. For starters...
1. Should I plan on purchasing a surge protector or is one built in?
2. Water regulator?
3. Water filter?

We have not picked it up yet and I expect to go over everything top to bottom with some lists I've found but any advice is welcomed.

Thanks.

Congrats on your rig. Unfortunately most rigs today do not come with a surge protector or water pressure regulator. In not sure if your year rig has water filter. The good news is all are easy mods and fun to do. Modification of your new rig may turn into an obsession. I know from exoerience. Good luck.

While I do not have your model here's an abbreviated list of things I purchased when starting out:

Shore power extension cord
Regular house extension cord
Surge suppressor
Various adapters (30A to 50A, 30A to 20A, 20A to 30A…etc)
cable TV cable
Drinking water hose
Water filter
Water pressure regulator
Good quality sewer hose
Sewer hose extension
90 degree dump station adapter
Clear sewer hose adapter (so you know the tank is clean)
Sewer hose stand
Rubber gloves
Dedicated black tank rinse hose
Black tank chemicals
RV safe toilet paper
Lynx leveling blocks
X-Chocks
Carpenters level
Inverting generator (3kW at least)
Portable tire inflator
Lug wrench
Hydraulic bottle jack
Mechanics tool kit
Spare fuses
Spare hitch pins
Towing mirrors
Traffic cones
Flashlight
Road flares

And most important…

A sense of humor

Thank you both! That's a great list - thank you and I'm sure it's all cheap

The inverting generator is for clean power typically (IT background) what do you need clean power for?

I got an inverter for 2 reasons.

1: Clean power
2: Noise level

Inverter generators are ALOT quieter than those open frame generators you can buy at Lowes or Home Depot.

Love our 2013 3170 DS, this Forum and YouTube taught me so much about running a rig. Questions just ask, we're glad to help.
