Questions on my sunseeker

After the walk thru, I have questions and believe that the forum is better them the dealership in answering.

If the battery switch is off does the batteries still charge when shore power is connected? The placement of the shore power connection is really bad for getting into the area below it. Can't do anything about that just seems to be a design fault. The air bags, what is a good pressure for those? The unit slides on the driveway (sloped) when coming in or leaving. Would take a long time to where out the metal there but need to protect. Last item funny. Steering wheel is not straight when front wheels are. Asked the dealer where to take and they said Ford. Did that and when arrived they said we can't do it, machine broke and to go to another place. Friday apt.

1 no it won't charge. 2 you could pump up till it doesn't drag, 100psi max. 3 when they align the front end, have caster set between 5 and 5.5 degrees positive caster. We all have had it done this way. Really helps stabilizing driving down the road.

Had the same issue with hitch dragging on driveway slope. Purchased from Amazon 130.00 solved my issue

All of the above. Also try laying a couple 2x12 boards lengthwise in front of the rear wheels as you pull in or out. Get them as many feet long as you think you'll need. As you drive over them it hopefully will lift the rear overhang up enough.

Re: hitting bottom: I have the same problem. I try to drive out of my driveway slightly diagonally, it helps in my case. If I didn't have trees on both sides, I'd drive even more diagonally (over the sidewalk), that would solve the problem even when loaded up.

Surely there must be enough others reading along here that remember the cars from the 70’s, when it was common practice to “jack up” the rear end.

My buddy with his Plymouth Duster did it along with countless others. I couldn’t afford a “Muscle car” back then so I didn’t do it. But I still don’t even know WHY people did it. Guess it was the “cool” factor.

Is this a viable solution to keeping the rear from scraping?

I’m betting “no” huh?

U Bolts attach around the hitch bar

When my battery switch is off(no power ) I can charge my batteries when plugged into shore power. I store next to the garage and keep it plugged in to a switched outlet and periodically and keep it charged no problem. The airbags on mine are Firestone and max air pressure is 100#. I keep them around 75# when traveling and adjust them when needed.
As for the driveway scraping good luck and the casters look like a great idea. May have to incorporate them for my rig as they redid my road this year and I wasn’t able to get it out prior to winterizing it.

We start our air bags @ about 70,,, time we get home they are about 45 !!! Need a little compressor for long trips !!!
Check your area for a FORD area that works on MH !!!
If Battery switch is off,,, they will not charge !!!

There is a Ford phone number for RV service at Ford dealerships. I called and got a local dealer to do recall work.

Check your lines and air bags for leaks, they do lose pressure but not that fast. Mine will stay up for a few weeks before I need to bump the pressure up.
Maybe mine is different but I check the unit every couple weeks and leave the switch off and recharge my batteries from shore power as needed. I turn it on to check the status and off when I exit. Must be magic

Same with my 2017 2861, the batteries charge with the disconnect switch off (disconnected). I have traced all the wiring and found that the disconnect switch simply removes circuits that could slowly drain the battery such as CO/Propane monitor, 12VDC TVs, DVD player, refer; but leaves a few non-draining items on the battery such as the slides, awning, jacks. It also does not disconnect the converter from the batteries, the converter charges the batteries when the switch is on or off when on shore power.


I have attached a very basic wiring diagram that I created to help me understand my electrical system, this is for a 2017 2861 Forester. Sounds like Forest River changed the way they wired the disconnect switch at some point.

Fobagbob, how does your jeep charge? What pin on your 7 pin connector did you use? I have purchased an RVI charger but have not installed it. Did not know you could charge directly from the coach. Thank you for the schematic.

Yes, there is a charge line in the 7-pin connector, it comes directly from the fuse box under the hood thru a fuse and relay. Assuming your Sunseeker E450 has the fuse and relay installed by Ford, you can find the pin by starting the engine and testing with a volt meter, should be between 13 and 14 volts. The Jeep battery is charged in parallel with the engine battery, the coach batteries are charged thru the relay in the BCC when the BCC decides the batteries need charge and there is charging voltage available from the engine. If I was home I could check the manuals and tell you which fuse and relay and which pin, but the good news is that I am on the road right now.

I believe there is a Large fuse box right side behind the E450s battery ???
I know that is where it is on my Old f-150, Large fuse ???

On my 2016 E450, the power distribution box is located under the hood on the driver side, the link below shows the relay and fuse for the "trailer tow battery charge". I believe this was the same in my 2010 E450 as well.

The 7-pin diagram shows that pin 4 is used for the 12v charge.
