Really my last winter question

Can’t remove the bowl from the water filter! Just won’t unscrew! Seems like there should be some kind of wrench. Any suggestions?

My 3011ds came with a white tool that went around the filter bottle and then you would turn it to come off and take the filter off

Also make sure the system has no pressure. Pump off and faucets open.

Head to your nearest hardware store / home center and pick up a rubber strap wrench. This will easily grip and remove the housing, just be sure to support where the filter mounts with your other hand or you could rip the whole thing loose!

Supposed to have a tool to unscrew the filter housing.

You should have a tool that looks like this. Can probably buy one at any decent hardware.

First time off with mine, almost broke plastic wrench in pic above. Used a wrench, almost no pressure and it spun lose.!

Which filter do you have?

If it's the FR1 you must first remove the pressure from the system, then push UP on the filter bowl to disengage the locking teeth, (it will only move maybe 1/8 of an inch) then turn the bowl with the wrench to loosen. (note: you can see the locking teeth in the second photo of the bowl)

To reinstall, tighten to align the arrows on the housing and the bowl and pull DOWN to lock the teeth. (note: arrows are not aligned in photo)

Yes, be sure the pump or city water is off and open a faucet to relieve the pressure.

Open the faucets up and open the low point drains. Make sure the water heater is in bypass mode. There is a vacuum effect that will prevent you from being able to unseal the housing canister. Keep the filter separate and allow it to dry out.

Don't forget to put a bath towel underneath it before you unscrew it.

My filter housing usually drains out when I follow the procedure that I outlined. There is very little water left in the canister when I unscrew it to remove the filter.

I would ask the dealer why you did not get the removal tool !!!
I have heard of them being left in the bag of booklets !!!
I once used an oil filter wrench !!!
I think there is a 0 chance of finding one in a Big Box store !!!
Maybe Wallmart ???

At work we have a deionized water system that has 4 different canister systems on it. They got tired of fighting to get the housing off just to drain water (no filter change) so I took the canisters, drilled and tapped a hole in the bottom and put small drain valves on each one. If a filter change wasn't required, they could use the valve to drain the water from the system without fighting the canister.

I cut my filter out and bypassed it. We don't drink the trailer water for other reasons so no point if we use an external filter. I just got tired of messing with it when draining and winterizing.

Channel Lock makes an oil filter removal tool that works very well on the water filter sumps. I broke my plastic one but, the metal Channel Lock one works on my house, RV, and softener filters and doesn't break.
