I have a new unit and am trying things out to make sure they are working properly. Just plugged into the house to try to cool the fridge overnight. It's been about an hour and I don't hear anything running is that normal or how long should it take to see a temperature change? I have a 2014 3170 model if that matters. Thanks

There isn't a compressor in a rv fridge. Runs off ammonia and a process called absorption. Some people say to leave it over night to get cold. I place a small fan inside and takes about 6 hours before I start loading.

On electricity we figure 8 hours to be safe. Turn in before we go to bed to load the next morning. Probably 6 would do it as said above.

My 3170 took forever to cool the first time plugged in. I now use a fan and throw some ice packs in when I turn it on. Feels cold after about two hours now.

I try to plug it on the night before I leave also.

If running on propane and you listen carefully, you will hear the burner light when turned on and occasionally thereafter. If on electric, there is really nothing to hear. As others have said, overnight is required for a good cool down. You should be able to feel some cooling in a couple of hours on the fins in back of fridge or on the bottom of the freezer. Many people add a small fan to the inside of the refrigerator to help circulate the air and facilitate cooling.
