Run, don't walk away from Forest River

In July we were on a short trip, my wife screamed as the slide out went past where it should have stopped popping off the inside facia, I was able to get it back in and usable. Now as soon as we got home we found one of the two stops , they had been mounted with only self tapping screws that didn't even bite the threads, only the tap part. I received an email from Travis Logan that they would take care of it. Over two months later -nothing. Multiple calls from myself and the dealer who wants to repair it but can't get information, no one will return calls. I"M DONE - NEVER AGAIN WILL I PURCHASE A FOREST RIVER PRODUCT! And I'll be glad to tell anyone that will listen how poor the quality and customer service is. They think I'm going away?, they don't know me. I intend to be one of their worst nightmares.

How Old is your TT? I have never seen Rust and Corrosion like that on an RV. Good Luck on getting some help

First let me say I'm sorry a DS used what was left on the table instead of the proper fastener. I had rust like that and I lube my rack assembly 4-5 times a year. Maybe the wrong type of lube but its what they like to say when it looks like that. Oh, did I say a had 50k miles on it, but that won't count when they seen it. Quality is and has always been the issue with hand crafting. Look, all auto manufactures went to robotics for a reason. Don't know how long you have been reading here or your level of knowledge but we all would like to follow your issue to the correction. Please keep us informed.

First I would think for something to be used as a stop the screws are a little short Then for the rust anything that is going to,come in contact with water which is what causes rust should be stainless I would think. Next I have been looking and read these threads daily for information. I am getting ready to make a purchase at first I was all ready to buy forest river. Reason I have a pontoon boat made by them and just love it. No issues at all and had it for over four years. Now with everything I keep reading I am not sure about forest river. I know the other brands also have problems but seems not as many as forest river. May be wrong but just my two cents worth.

I can't believe the rust showing in that pic for a 2016. That aside go to any owners forum and you will hear horror stories about that brand.
I first would do everything via email so you have records of all conversations. Start by emailing up the food chain as they say. It's only a stop how much work does the dealer say it needs to screw it back in and correct what may have been damaged? Also I don't know your dealer but if you spend enough time on these forums you will know that you don't always take what they may tell you as gospel. Frustrating I am sure First step email FR. A new one maybe is "composite" flooring. This ugly dragon has jet to unleash its furry. I read more of this everyday. In 2010 we bought our 1st 5r. Bunkhouse style and of course 1/2 ton towable. Isn't this still the fresh wave? We expressed we were going full time and of course the salesman ensured us its a fulltime RV and its a 4 season. Aren't they all? Hahah. After full timing it for about 4 years we noticed soft spots in the floor. After taking a heat register apart and inspecting the floor I found Luan sandwiched between foam-board insulation laid over the aluminum frame. At about the 5yr mark I floated a 3/8" bamboo floor for additional support, and it did help for 2yrs (board locks break without proper substructure). After looking at many residential style RVs we found a good (I hope) one. Montana, Big Country, Jayco, Forest River, to name a few have or are boosting residential RVS with this new composite floor. I believe Big Country informed me that they use a new scientific made OSB to sandwich the foam but its still composite. Some do (I have one) make the traditional 5/8 tonge and groove floor. So the song remains the same. Buyer be ware. Manufactures will continue to make them with hopes of top dollar at the cheapest cost to produce.

As sour you seem to be, I am just the opposite. We have owned our Cedar Creek for over 12 years and other than normal wear and tear I cannot be more pleased. We are just now re-carpeting and re-upholstering the couch. We figure we can get another 10 years easily out of it.

I hope you get your issue taken care of. I have had multiple brands over the years I have been camping. Each of the units had their problems and quirks. This seems to be the nature of the beast regardless of brand.
I have had my Rockwood for one and a half years and had a few issues. So far, they have taken care of me when I contacted them.

I probably have now jinxed myself

It is not so much that there is an issue, things happen, it it the deafening silence from Forest River. You would think they would have wanted to get this fixed correctly to help protect whatever reputation they might have. Had they proceeded in a timely manner I would still consider another of thier products, no longer.

Buy and install a longer (SS) screw for $1.00 and get on with your life.
I get it that you should not have to deal with it but if your rig has been at the dealer for 2 months waiting on Forest River to authorize a longer screw, shame on you and your dealer.
Some things are just not worth getting the dealer or Forest River involved.

If that was all it is that would have been done by now, we found one stop one is missing, the T part of it has a threaded hole that looks like a part should have also been there. So there are likely several parts missing. They don't show on lipperts parts list at least we think it is lippert. The holes in the rack are so corroded since they never had screws in them properly they will need to be retapped. and the inside facia need to be repaired as well.

To the OP. Did YOU call lippert yourself? YOU can contact Lippert, send them pics ect. Lippert will tell you what you have and what is missing.
YOU can also purchase parts directly from Lippert.

Page #28 shows a diagram of your slideout. You will see a bolt and nut that goes through the threaded hole on your "stop block".
Give this to your dealer so he can look at the copy they have in the shop.

Ok. I will admit my longer screw advice was misguided. It appears from the Lippert master manual that it should be 2 X fasten screws, a fasten bolt and a fasten nut. Sorry for the wrong advice posted earlier.

Thanks, this is interesting the parts sure look right although listed as above floor, the slide is actually below, the must have done a hybrid thing.
