Rv compartment locks

We were told when we purchased the Rv that we should get new locks since everyone has the same key and theft can be an issue. Does anyone have a recommendation? There are some on Amazon, they seem to be between 5-$7.00 per lock also some are 5/8 others are 7/8? Which do we need? Also some us regular keys and others have the keys used on wheel locks. Thanks

I swapped out our locks (and this assumes you have the same style) with file cabinet locks from Lowes. They are simple to swap out, and you can get them to all use the same key. Each package will have a 4 or 5 digit key code, just buy the number of locks you need with the same code, simple as that. I think they were in the $4.97 price range

Assuming this link works, this is pretty much what you are looking for.

But if you have the "handle style" locks, I am wasting your time, lol

Replace the locks if you like but the likelihood of any one stealing your stuff is slim.

Agreed. And if it does happen, it won't be because they happened to have a key that fit your lock.

All the instances I've ever heard of an RV being broken into they either broke a window or simply pried the door(s) open.

Soon as I get my camper back from the dealer I'm going this route, then my door key will also match the storage compartments.

Baggage Compartment Locks and Keys

I already rekeyed my rear door to match the front. These will make the whole trailer one key with the exception of the garage door. I'm not concerned about it from a theft standpoint, just pure convenience of 1 key.

Most of the discussions involve the wide use of the CH751 key. This is a small, single sided key. The compartments on our Solera use a double sided key - nothing like a CH751. Doubt your Sunseeker compartments use a 751 key.

We used them too. They even sent me a new barrel when I screwed one of my new ones up. Great service and product.

Our Sunseeker had the 751 key on all outside storage and shower. We used the same distributor that Scubanut used and replaced them easily.

I replaced my 751's with barrel style locks. Mine were 7/8 on a forest river wildwood TT. Piece of cake and also really tightened up the door when closed and latched. Yes, if someone wanted in they can find a way but anything to slow them down and also avoid the "what if they just happened to have a 751 with them". Got them on Amazon. I replaced the one thumb turn latch with these as well so double locks on each baggage door.

Can you remove the key when they are unlocked? Some you have to leave the key in or turn it back to the locked position to get the key out.

No you can't. But honestly when I turn the key to unlock I just pull out a little on the key and then relock but the catch on the inside doesn't latch back to the frame. Piece of cake. Piece of mind.

I used ILH also...great service and good locks. They'll also let you key them all alike, or have a couple that are different if you have that need. They'll even color code the keys. But as a someone else may have said, you need to measure every single lock you are replacing. For example, I used three different size configurations on my Sunseeker 3010 DS (2015). Just because they look the same doesn't mean they are.

Changed my locks out this winder to the cam locks. They are much nicer to use and seem much better built than the cheap old locks FR put on. I did the locks a bit for security but mostly because the locks never worked great and the key was always very sloppy when put in the hole. I had a few times were things jammed up and not unlocking... Not anymore!

I filed the little tab off the cam lock keys so I could remove the key while it is unlocked and do the next lock. I also put 2 locks on each door.
