Sat and cable connections

After much research, it can be done with adding connectors and jumpers. Simpler for me to just add a dedicated outdoor line.

Yes, you are right! Never paid much attention to it.

I found out the little remote for the head unit will still work thru the privacy curtain.

HDMI is called cat5. You can get the wire and ends at Lowes/ HD. Should not be too hard to run wire from and to where you need it. Just waiting for weather to brake so I can do the same.

HDMI is not Cat5 or 6.
You can buy converters to convert HDMI to work over longer runs of cat 5/6 cable but the two cables are not the same.

Another option for me is to move my Dish receiver from under the TV (located on driver side of bunk) to the pass side on the board covering the bunks storage area. Then run my HDMI under the mattress or around it to the TV. The 110v power cord from the inverter under the sofa and new dedicated Sat dish coax will have a much shorter run from under the sofa. Plus I can easily add a HDMI from the receiver to the outdoor TV. Will post photos if I do it.

Ran a test run of new Pathway X1 dish, with ViP211z receiver and 400 watt inverter. I put alligator clips on 10' lengths 10 awg wire attaching it to the battery positive and shunt negative. Then ran wires atop the sofa cup holder board. Placed the receiver on the cabover bed storage cover, but the HDMI cable was too short (6') to reach the TV as shown in photo. Will buy a long HDMI so as to hide it from view.
The DW saw it and said, "I hope you don't think you're going to leave it like that". She hates wires. I did a test and the 400 watt inverter did fine. Only draws 6.1 amps shown in photo of Xantrex Battery monitor and that's with the fridge going also and 2 lights. Simulated evening of watching Sat TV.
Since it draws so little amps, I thought maybe attaching the inverter to the power going to the outdoor entertainment center wiring under the sofa. But it may be an issue when we want to use the outdoor TV with SAT.
I did try the flat coax thru the window and got a screen saying "Cable signal Lost, check connections". I removed the flat coax and ran it directly to the receiver for now. Works GREAT!.

Surprised that the flat cable interfered with the signal. I wonder why the connection to the rooftop cable doesn't effect the signal at all. Sure happy it doesn't.

I understand wanting to have the option to position the SAT Dish wherever it will work best. Believe me I do. But I'm loving mine mounted on the roof. I put it way forward on the roof and I just need a spot with no low hanging trees directly in front of my RV.



PS. I put it far forward to be sure that the Fantastic fan cover wouldn't interfere with the view to the SATs if they were directly behind my RV. The instructions say to mount 2' to 3' in front of an 18" high object. Kind of wish I bought a black Dish though.

My connection cable for sat is right in front my living-room fantastic fan across from the OTA TV antenna. Boy, that TV antenna is sure going to be a tree branch catcher. I had the old batwing crank up on my Winnebago ripped off as we were heading down our street going to Yosemite. Never had a problem before that. Were able to pick up another at CW in Bakersfield and replaced it at the CG. But this one looks expensive and would probably do some roof damage if ripped off.
Back to the roof mount. is yours centered? Hard to tell in photo as you have and I see you have Eternal bond tape holding down coax. You said it's far forward, is that a skylight?

Yes, it's centered side to side. My connection to the SAT cable is in the same spot. Directly in front of the middle vent (a non-powered vent) directly across from the King Jack TV antenna. There are 4 vents - Forward Living area (fantastic fan), middle of the coach just in front of the kitchen (just a vent), the bathroom (powered fan) and the bedroom (just a vent).

I've already broken one of those antenna's on the day I drove the RV home. It hit a branch in my driveway and went flying.

I was able to cover the hole and order a few replacement parts at a cost around $25 and rebuild mine. But honestly, it doesn't work very well. Even in Tucson there were some local stations it couldn't pick up. I wish I had the crank up antenna. I'm sure the extra height would have solved that problem.

It's one of the reasons I didn't save $100 and buy the King SAT Dish.

We are always encountering tree branches and I don't always see them in time to avoid them. Did a check and found the King Jack antenna for $112, that's less than I thought it would be. Where did you find replacement parts?

Ben, I think you asked a while back about how much amp draw there was from using Sat TV. If you look back a few posts here, you'll see in photo it only uses 6.1 amps with my fridge, 2 lights on, Sat receiver and TV on. Yours may be different if you have the double door fridge.
Heading out camping tomorrow in sierras, first time for freezing temps so I'll try to keep track of usage. Don't know if I can get a clear shot at the southern sky to use Sat. Also, I'm going to put temp probes in compartments to see how cold the get with limited furnace use.

Have you checked with Winegard, they must have black replacement domes for the dish.
