Sat and cable connections
I'm sure I asked this before, but can't find it. What's the coax on the plate for? Going to label them!
I see there is a 110v receptacle atop the post next to the TV.
So I could place the Vip211z right under the TV then like Creative Parts has done.
For dry camping, I will then hardwire my 400watt inverter to the batteries and place it under the sofa. Then run an extension cord from the inverter along the floor to the carpeted strip separating the cab from the living room flooring and then up to the receiver.

On the three coax connector plate:
Top is the cable tv IN connector
Middle is the SAT IN from the roof
Bottom is a shared tv out to the bedroom/outside tv
The jumper is there to send cable tv to the other tvs (bedroom/outside).
The main tv gets antenna and cable signal from the other plate above this one. If the amplifier is on the tv gets over the air tv if the amp is off the main tv gets its signal from the outside cable connection.
If you are using SAT tv - not on the roof - plug the dish into the outside cable connector. Then remove that short jumper and run a coax from the top connector to the SAT in on the SAT receiver. Then you can send SAT to the other tvs by running a coax from the tv out (RF) on the SAT receiver to that bottom connector. Of course, you'll need to run an HDMI from the SAT receiver to the main tv to get SAT tv there.
When running SAT from the roof you just use that middle connector to run coax to the SAT IN on the receiver.
Put the main tv source on HDMI to watch SAT from the receiver.
There are lots of ways to use both tv source settings and turning the antenna amp on and off to view either SAT or antenna or cable depending on how you connect everything.
Does that make sense?

Just a thought. I believe the VIP211Z does not have a coax out port, only HDMI. The VIP211K does have both coax and HDMI output ports. Could be wrong. This may or may not be an issue for your install.

I have a ViP211 - without any "z" or "k". It has component, S-video, coax and HDMI TV outputs. I don't know about the other models. It even has analog audio and Toslink audio outputs as well.

Bubbles, you are correct about only the HDMI on the ViP211z, but not an issue as the TV has that input connection.
I'm looking at the NEW King Tailgater in smaller dark grey color. It's only 13.5Hx18.75Wx17"L and can be used as a portable or mount to roof or ladder. If we buy it, I will start with just using as a portable and store in cabinet when not in use. Since we primarily dry camp in National and State parks, trees become an issue and the portability is a major factor. I will alarm it and it would only be out during use.

Sage, if the "z" doesn't have a coax TV out then you cannot watch SAT TV channels at other TVs in your RV.
I'm not sure if there are any real differences between the King and the Winegard - but the King is $50 cheaper and comes standard with roof mounts which makes it about $100 cheaper than the Winegard.
I went with the Winegard only because I have had good luck with my other Winegard products and didn't know if it would be true with the King model. Sometimes I don't trust a cheaper product will be as good, but that's my issue to deal with.
I know that Dish is really pushing the King dish. So, it must be fine.
As to alarming it???? We've never had any issues in the 4 years we've used a Winegard Carryout.

Creativepart, we aren't big TV watchers. Main TV with sat hookup will work for us.
Measured the rear compartment which has a 14" height at opening. Luckily, the Tailgater is 13.5" in height, it will store easily back there.
Today, I remounted my battery monitor shunt so I can attach the inverter easily with eye loops when I hardwire it in.

Sat and cable connections
Questions. Do the King and Winegard run in 110 or 12 volt ? I do know the receivers run on 110. Also, how do you power these units when 110 is not available and you don't want to run the generator? I would think an inverter. And if so, what size would I need? And one last question. How long can you watch Sat TV on just battery power? Thx.

Ben, the power for the King Tailgater dish comes thru the coax cable from your receiver. True the receiver requires 110v and can be from either shoreline power, generator or an inverter. I used a 400 watt inverter to provide the 110v needed for the the receiver in my old Winnebago. My Dish ViP211z only uses 50 watts and the 400 watt inverter provided more than enough power. I don't recall how much amp draw there is off the house batteries when running, maybe 6ahr. Tomorrow, I am hardwiring my old inverter, placing it under the sofa. If you decide to get an inverter, make sure it's got a quiet fan. I bought a larger cheap one and it was too noisy to use.
I would recommend an 800+ watt.

Ben, you have me thinking about buying a larger inverter now. I like the Cobra 1500 shown in the link. Has an Led that gives volts and amp consumption and 1500 continuous-3000surge. Reviews say quiet fan when it does come on. You'll have to click on the 1500 watt.

These two newer automatic dishes do not need an Aux power source. All you do is run the cable from the receiver's SAT IN to the dish. The receiver runs on 110v and it supplies 45v to the dish - via the coax - to power the positioning motors and logic boards.
The only way to watch SAT TV on battery power is to use an inverter. It wouldn't take a large one, a portable would do. But that's the one way you could do this.
Older and larger automatic SAT dish models did/do require Aux power - but it was always 12v power. The problem with that is that it was not always easy to get 12v power AND the SAT coax cable to where you placed the dish.

All of these small dishes seem to have two raw SAT signal out connections - but they can only aim at one SAT at a time because they have only one LNB. So, if the main TV is watching programming on SAT 110W then any connected 2nd receiver could only watch programming on that same satellite.
The large home type of SAT dishes - the kind that fold up a large elliptical dish - have 2 or even 3 LNBs and can receive programming from all 3 SATs at one time. So, multiple TVs with multiple receivers inside the coach could easily watch different programming at the same time. But these typically cost $1200 or more - 3 times what these little dishes cost.

King Tailgater on sale at CW
CW has the King Tailgater on sale for $349 and my flyer from CW says take 10% off. That seems like an excellent price if the coupon works.

How do people power their inverters? Guess it depends on the size. We have a small inverter that we have used in cars and our old Mnnie Winnie that we just plugged into a 12 volt outlet. Our inverter would make a bit of noise when running a laptop that was plugged into a 110 socket of the inverter.
