Shifting from Toad to Uber?

Just curious if others are towing a vehicle less and opting for Uber?

You must camp near the city.

We like going to the country to get away from it all.

They can't even spell Uber, let alone offer one.

I'll keep my toad for the difference in mileage it costs over not having it.

I can just imagine using an Uber to drive me thru the Needles Road in SD, or a drive onto the Blue Ridge Pkway.
How about an Uber driving us around Devils Tower, or thru some of the back roads just to see the sights.
Nope, not gonna happen!!!

That could be a good business venture. Take a nice equipped 4x4 or Jeep and do Uber tours for people around the off the beaten path areas.

I guess you have to be a Millenial.

I can't imagine getting in a car with a stranger........even a taxi. Just not going to as long as I can drive.

Course, this is why I tow a camper instead of a camper towing a toad. Well, that and I'm claustrophobic! LOL

I DO see some of the benefit of a small MH if I wanted to just tour the world, though....

Yep We have a toad but when we are on a short trip to an urban area we sometimes opt to uber or taxi. My son lives in Santa barbara and there is a lot of public transportation.

But sometimes that trip to a nearby lake to off the beaten path. You can't beat loading up cherokee trailhawk with an ice chest, some fishing poles and a couple of grand kids for a day trip. Also Grandma sometimes like to buy something that won't fit in an uber.

But then who can afford to pay what they would ask for the tour and you still not going to just go see other stuff. I would stick to the toad if I had a MH. Guess that is why i all toe a tt no need for a car. Later RJD

Then, of course, there is another option. Pick up a rental car when you reach your destination. Although I haven't personally done this before, I have a lot of friends that have adopted the "rental car" approach. They say that the money they save in gas, insurance, towing equipment, etc. more than pays for the rental car. Especially when companies like Enterprise Rental will pick you up at your site!

Yep, done that as well. Just a matter of personal preference. Our toad is our daily driver so insurance is no savings. wear and tear and a mile or so less per gal. is a little added coast but not enough to offset a rental car. Another reason we like our toad is we like to get off the beaten track a bit sometimes or camp on the beach. 4X4 rentals can get pricy, It's nice to have all the options depending on where we are headed.

We don't tow and when we are going from point A to point B (by the way of cities), Uber is great! And some campgrounds will have a rental car.

I personally won't use Uber because I believe they are severely under paid. when you calculate the cost per mile of maintaining, insuring and depreciation of a vehicle there is not much real net take home pay. In most cases around the minimum wage. The big problem is a lot of people don't realize this until they need to replace their car and did not put the money away from there earnings and or tax deductions. Slave labor it's not a good business model in my opinion.

Uber is not a useful option outside of Urban/ Metro areas.

I tell my son about how much fun it used to be to drive a stick shift.

With autonomous cars coming, I'm afraid he's going to tell his son how much fun it used to be to drive yourself!

Shifting from Toad to Uber?

Enterprise rental or bicycle. I have no toad.

Autonomous cars? Bah, humbug. I will resist to the end. I too still love standard transmissions.
