Should sanitizing include hot water heater?

I would appreciate opinions on whether the hot water heater should be included or bypassed during sanitizing. It seems a pain to rinse out the heater several times during the process.

Given that the water heater gets above 130 degrees I would not think it needs sanitzed. JMO.

I do a WH flush before winterizing. Remove the anode rod and flush particles that may be in the bottom of the tank. You can buy a wand for this purpose or make one with clear tubing.

I don't worry much about the water heater. Just don't go to the sink and fill a glass with hot water for drinking. Usually don't use the hot water for anything but bathing and washing dishes. Now I'm sure some the use hot water for coffee, but by the time the coffee is made, it should be pretty safe. Just my two cents worth, your mileage may vary.

Water heater has to be full & purged of air before turning on.Water coming into the heater is cool & may be (BAD). Water heater will (NOT) reach 212 Deg.F so it will not kill all (Things). I sanitize all of the system. Youroo!!

Is there any way to drain the water heater without taking out the anode rod? Otherwise it seems you must remove it several times during the cleaning/sanitizing/flushing process.

I don't sanitize the water in my hot water heater at home. Not sure why the trailer would be any different.

I have not filled my water heater at (Home) with a hose from a different water source every few days. Youroo!!

Dave - CW sells a kit (Stock #37395) that is an anode rod with a drain plug on the end that, if the picture is correct, allows you to drain the WH without renoving the rod. The package says it is for the Atwood brand WH so I don't if it would work for you.

Dont use the #37395,it is 1/2NPT ,your Surbuban heater is 3/4 NPT. Youroo!!
