Sky light covers

We have a 2019 Forest River Forester FRC 3051SF. My question does someone make a skylight covers for 22”x30” skylights. I have ones for the 14x14’s.

welcome to the forum its a great place to get your questions answered. Are you confusing 14x14 vent covers with a skylight?

You are most likely asking about the ones above the dinette and above the sink area. We have a 2014 3051.

Personally I couldn’t find anything so I bought a sewing machine and made my own.

Work great - three layers - reflectix, microwave safe material to stop even more heat, then layer of material to dress them up. Sewed a layer of Velcro around all sides on the skylight side and used command strips to hold in place.

Used them last season and make a huge difference in the temp inside the coach.

Thanks. The DW was confused when I told her I ordered a sewing machine.

They were a bit expensive with the machine cost added in.

Used it to make some shoe holders mounted under the closets in the bedroom too.

Nice part is I could make some with design material facing the inside as well if needed to change things up a bit. Couple friends are taking measurements now as well so I may have to make some more.

Good thread of info. I just got through making shades for the skylights on our 2019 3051s. We live in Maine and camp a lot here plus all over New England. Usually we don't have high heat but this summer has been brutal. The camper is new to us from last month so still fitting it out. I used light weight fleece and sewed Velcro on the corners and middle. Found Velcro buttons online like are used to put up the privacy screen at the front seats. Joe put the buttons on all the screws on the skylights. They filter the sunlight but don't block the heat. I have small sheets of Reflectix to slide under the fleece as needed.

I guess some folks like them but not me. I just don’t see any need for skylights. We put heavy reflective material over the plastic and then cut ⅛ inch foam to cover the entire opening. Looking for a better looking material for the main cover but for now this system is blocking 100% of the light and just about all the heat.

Our Forester has 3 skylights including the one in the shower.
We purchased our unit in Florida in January and at the time they seemed like a good idea.
We changed our minds when summer arrived. If I had it to do over again I wouldn't have any skylights other than in the bathroom only because we put spring rods in it and dry clothes over the shower.
Not only do they cause heat gain, I believe they affect the structural integrity of the roof. Our roof squeaks if I walk anywhere near the front one that is right next to a 14 x 14 vent.
We've solved the heat issue by painting the exterior of the skylights white and putting Reflectix on the inside. Both made a big difference.
Lesson learned.
